to fill or not to fill

hi everyone im doing my front and rear diff's this weekend so being reading thru the forum ,have i read right about just using the exact amount of oil because normaly when iv done diffs on other car you pump it in until the oil starts to pour out then put your plug back in .but sure i read this is not a good idea on the disco 3, is this right and is it just the rear one you dont fill, feeling a bit puzzled Confused .please help before i make a mistake and over fill them .thanks.

Correct amounts are (according to Advanced factors) :

Front Diff 75w90 0.6l Fully Synthetic
Standard Rear Diff 75w90 1.1l Fully Synthetic
Locking Rear Diff 75w140 Fully Synthetic

As far as I know the fill hole is a fill hole and not a level hole.
(though the level may be the same as the hole...)

I'll be doing mine very soon

Thumbs Up

When I did mine I treated as a fill hole.

i.e put the correct measured amount in.

The front was still clean at 110K miles

I did the same as Pete, but have to say its the only vehicle Ive not used the hole as a level, seemed unnatural.

When I did mine recently, I measured the oil volume, but I'm very confident that equates to the filler plug level as well.

Hi

The info you quote from Advanced factors is correct. Do all my Oils & Filters, including fuel filter every 12months regardless.
