I've noticed that the younger generation seem to respond to every request or comment with "wait"...... Why would I ? It's almost like their thought processes can't keep up! Rolling with laughter

A phrase that niggles me is when a yoof, being served in Starbucks et. al. says, "can I get ..." rather than I would like or can I have...

Also noticed that a channel 4 presenter or rather announcer of up coming programmes in the advert break has suddenly come over all street, innit.

What is that all about? exactly who are they trying to appeal to?

That's my rant for the day over.

Ahhh, how long can I make my list of linguistic irritants.....

"My bad"
Any sentence containing more "likes" than a popular BookFace page
Y'know.
Anyone talking as if they were posting on Twitter. Yes hashtag is a word. No you don't need to use it in conversation.
"Now that's what I'm talking about". Funny, you never mentioned it before.

I reckon that a sentence beginning with so, is pretty low on the sin list.

Oh my goodness....

You have sooooooooo started something here!

My ex-Father-in-Law had a habit of dropping the word 'right' into any sentence, normally at the end and normally with a slight rise in inflexion (in the style of an annoying Australian - other annoying nationalities are also available...), presumably seeking agreement for his increasingly random actions.

Once the rest of the family twigged, it became like a version of word bingo and we had to see how far you could go without either mimicking him or falling about with laughter...

"Getting divorced - that'll mean you don't have any money left, right?"

Shame!

Rolling with laughter

Been bugging me for a year or more. Seems that every other person interviewed on Radio 4 starts their answers with "So,..."

Comedy was a horse, Harvey a dog, both sadly gone. Thought I was choosing a password!

So ,Service improvement managers and the likes have been using it for about 18 months in earnest , I presumed certain people had some idiosyncrasies like a cough or similar behaviour before thier first word and the therapists replaced it with SO and their peers liked it and now its gone viral .

Thats how it works dont ya know 8)

I thought the voice rise was an

Antipodes thing ? Oz & NZ

...the usual american trait is the sentence thats sung out "up & down" done start - mid - end sentence

right at the end is a bit like like using but implies whatever been said is true - right ?
like can can be used anywhere - like

it did used to spend on the area you cam from...
pal at the end was fighting talk - pal

these do vary & come & go - trends

...but to me the world class are some possibly most Irish who can drop 'feckin in anywhere...its even in place names - Termonfeckin in Louth.
Those from around Ballymena use - so it is, so they do....everywhere....possibly an extension of the "So" thread starter...so it is

Strangely, local & regional accents seem to remain even though we have TV & quick communications - which to me are brilliant as it is the mark of where you come from..the blonde girl from the North east who is now a front row TV presenter..at one time it had to be BBC English without a regional accent..why 'aye
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
