Are LR's getting too BIG?

Since removing the Freelander and replacing it with the DS, I've gotten the distinct feeling that LR models are getting only bigger.

I've seen plenty of smaller SUV's out there .... Suzuki/Mitsi/ Honda/Toyota that are selling well too. Do you think that LR are missing the point in the future of gas guzzling 4x4's?

Remember the baby Disco is still to come out and I suppose the Evoque hasn't done too badly.

I'm thinking even smaller, look at the little Suzi Grand Vitara. I feel there is a space for a Lightweight sized soft-top off-roader out there. Something a 4 pot 1.6ltr can throw around with ease. A Beach bug that the younger generation can afford to run. Mr. Green

Smaller models will be forthcoming ...however don't forget that JLR have just sold over 500k vehicles in a year for the first time, and advanced orders are very strong....so their model evolution is working despite what the swivel eyed bearded woolly underpant wearers are saying Very Happy

They did have a clay model of the mini-ePoke on display at Gayden when we did the design centre tour. Needless to say it hasn't appeared.

And by "on display", they made the mistake of leaving the big set of Z doors open as we rolled past. And we rolled past very slowly. Laughing Laughing

The worrying thing is Gerry McGovern has been quoted saying that Bentley and Rolls Royce are making SUVs so why can't Range Rover do it in reverse Shocked

The FFRR is affectively a limo already, really. Sure, it goes anywhere you want to go but the reality is that most buyers aren't interested in the off road ability bit.

My missus wants a 4x4 for herself but we don't need 2 Disco sized cars. Since FL1 sized LR's are no longer produced, she is looking elsewhere Shocked

Unbelievably the FFRR and RRS have grown externally but the boot has shrunk - hope the D5 doesn't follow the trend Shocked

Parking a new FFRR or RRS2 now in car park spaces is very difficult and my garage was too small too Rolling Eyes

Thankfully the DS has a more rear legroom and bigger boot than the FL2 or RRS so suits my needs exactly Mr. Green

I think the new Defender/DC100 will be a practical small LR from what I've seen Thumbs Up

The more I see those old pictures of the DC100, the more I like the look of it.

I wouldn't say over priced it's the cheapest car in the LR range.

I was playing on the LR builder, looking at a DS Dynamic, by the time I got what I wanted on it, it was over £50k Shocked that's real Discovery money. The new D5 ain't going to be any better.
