LOW NOISE RATTLING SOUND ON START UP >> PLEASE HELP << |
|
Hello guys!
I have just baught disco 3 tdv6 2007 sx model which is serviced 3 months ago from the previous owner, I am experiancing a strange noise on starting up the engine that is a very low quiet rattling noise that lasts for about 3/5seconds max, this happens even when the engine is still hot and the strange thing is that it does not do it all the time, this morning on cold start did not do it, yesterday did it twice in a whole day but the sound is very low, im worrying that it gets worse so i better prevent now if there is somthing what do you think guys? Any one had this experiance?
I have read another forums saying that all discos 3 does this just need to confirm here..
Thanks!

This type of rattle on start up is usually associated with the slight delay in oil getting to the hydraulic lash adjusters (tappets). Mine does not do this, and never has, but I have heard of others that do. Can you be sure that the correct viscosity / spec engine oil and a decent filter is installed in the engine ? If not, I would carry out an oil and filter change using a genuine LR filter and the correct oil, and see if that improves the situation. I doubt that it will get any worse over the life of the engine tbh. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

I don't think it will get worse, if it is what I have described above..........and replacing the oil and filter (correctly), won't do any harm.
