Guys,
I have noticed a slight bit of play in the steering when pulling away it feels like the steering column moves slightly. Its only really when I pull off from a stop that this is noticeable but I have noticed it over uneven surfaces at slow speeds also. It is only very slight but still i can feel the steering column move. Is that normal? I have read on here about steering knocking but mine does not seem as pronounced as that.
Cheers

Mine has been plagued with knocking noises as of late, and has had most suspension bushes replaced, as well as the track rods for the steering and stuff like that. Steering now feels like new, but there's still one knocking noise left to be fixed. IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

Mine is an 06 build - outside the VINS quoted and has had the dreaded knock from about 2,500 km old. The latest 'Fix" was to replace the steering rack - and they also said that as a result they had to do a wheel alignment. Now 900 km later the tread is being torn off particularly the right hand front tyre, the vehicle howls going around roundabouts and the knock which occurs particularly on weight transfer from front to back at low speeds as one accelerates away gently is back.
The dealer in Australia is saying it still is not the sliding joint becuase the VIN number does not cover my car and I am starting to get to be a bit of an unhappy camper about this issue.

Mine had this movement too, noticeable when weight shifted left to right etc when cornering, been in the dealers and had various bits of the steering replaced under warranty. Seems OK now. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto
