Battery Warning
Just had a battery warning sign pop up in the Nav Screen "Low battery - start the engine". This happened on start up. Read the manual and advice is to run the engine for 30mins to see if that gets rid of the message. It didn't. As soon as I switched off the ignition, the warning sign came back. There are no warning lights indicating failure of alternator and I drove the car for the prescribed 30' with all other systems off (AC & etc).
Any thoughts on this appreciated. I never had a battery suddenly fail, they usually deteriorate slowly and noticeably. Still in warranty so not too fussed, it's PITA at the moment in the middle of a Bank Holiday Weekend when we should be somewhere else.
I've got it plugged into my CTEK at present to see what analysis that gives.

Thanks for that Jon. I'll let it go through the CTEK cycle until tomorrow. It has so far got up to 6 (Recond) and then gone back to 4 (bringing it slowly up to 100%).
If that fails I'll call out LRA and point them in the direction of BMS 'cos that's way beyond my competence level. FCR is about my limit and I don't suppose it will show up on there.

LRA man turned up. He went through all the checks twice to eliminate the possible causes and eventually, his machine told him that a new battery was required. So job done and away.
He was able to tell me that I'd driven 90 miles in total since the warning message first appeared. Amazing innit!
Battery was reading 12.55v - 689/850A (whatever) and his machine was telling him that the battery was "reporting" a surface charge when the system was asleep. He checked the output from each terminal and the neg was down to 0.02 which is acceptable apparently.
Interestingly he said that LR insist that the first check is to see if the neg clamp is firmly down on the battery post. Mine needed a little fettling to get it in the correct position but in the end that wasn't the fault.
Same chap came two years ago and changed a battery on my last D4 and he remembered all about that.
Happy days
