help needed, D4 chassis number for a 2010 or 2011 model |
|
sorry if posted in the wrong section
I need to ensure I order a 2010 or 2011 heated steering wheel ECU for my D3
I've bought a used one but want to make sure I have a 100% certain working one so want to order a new one........the D4 toi D3 steering wheel conversion is costing me an arm and a leg!!
Problem is the ECU changed in about 2013/14
Can someone PM me and share their 2010 or 2011 D4 chassis number?
Cheers
Tony

Why do you need the chassis number if you have bought the bits from black box to convert to a D4 wheel and you have a heated wheel and clock spring then it should all work Discovery 3 se gone

Hi, on page 40 on the thread on the D3 to D4 steering wheel conversion
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic44385-585.html
there's a reply with pictures from Colin in BBS, the later model year D4 has a different heated wheel ECU which does not work with the BBS kit

What year/car did the wheel come from as mine was a 2012 one and it only needs the bbs kit so unless you have a wheel from a my2014 onwards wheel you have what you need as long as you have the pigtail to connect the heated clockspring to a power supply Discovery 3 se gone

After a bit more reading it would appear that if you have the later wheel it is not going to work as it looks like the extra connecter does go back to the body control modul so you would need to make your own connecter as Colin did or change the wheel Discovery 3 se gone

I've have a new 2014 wheel
I also then bought a used 2013 wheel and I'm using the loom and heated wheel ECU from that with my BBS kit
The blue connecter and four wire colours (2x brown and 2x blue from memory) from the wheel to the ECU are the same on my 2013 and 2014 wheel
I have a new clock spring with heated wheel function, my D3 already had the 12v supply up to the clock spring wrapped in sponge so it was simple plug and play
I want to be confident my used heated wheel ECU is working so I want to buy a new one, the only way I can get the correct part number is to supply my local dealer with the chassis number of a 2010/11 model with heated wheel, part number I have is LR028799 but it's not certain this is the correct number
My BBS kit wasn't working at all, so I paid £67 to ship it back to Cyprus, BBS found the right had board faulty, did a repair and sent back to me.
Issue now is the heated wheel is not working and the buttons do not work with the BBS heated switch module connected
As soon as I disconnect the BBS heated switch module from the right hand board everything works as it should.
So is it the BBS heated switch module or the heated wheel ECU? I don't know but I've given up of BBS and ordered a new set of boards rather than mess around with returns that only end up costing me money and time and I want to but a brand new 2010/11 heated wheel ECU
so.......that's why I'm asking for help with a chassis number for a D4 2010/11 model with heated wheel.......simplesssss

Colin
It is nice to see that you are finally alerting people about this issue!
I brought this issue to your attention in 08/11/2014 when I tried to install the heated S/W.
At the end I developed my own module with a 555 timer set to 2 minutes triggered by the steering wheel switch.
It would be nice to fix it properly one day!!!
Lucio
Sorry it was Lucio replying to colin
It may be cheaper to buy a wheel from a earlier model and sell the others as it seems a lot of work to getit working and you already have 2 wheels which I am sure would cover the cost of an older wheel Discovery 3 se gone

still want to try a new heated wheel ECU
so guys and one who can provide me with chassis number for a 2010/11 D4 with heated wheel would be much appreciated
I can then get a correct part number for the earlier type of heated wheel ECU

I don't think the heated wheel ECUs can be bought on their own 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
