Eliminating Lag - Manual Gearbox
Has anyone here managed to eliminate the lag (pulling away from rest) by a re-map with a manual gearbox? I am seriously considering swapping to an Auto as I am sick of nearly stalling then crawling away at snails pace before the turbo kicks in when trying to accelerate from rest uphill with the manual box. The only way round is to give loads of revs and slip the clutch which is not great.
My re-map (wakeupyourcar.com) has given bags of mid-range punch but from rest it is still poor.
If TorqTune etc cures this it is going to be cheaper then switching to an auto (which may have lag but at least won't stall)2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

I would guess Torque Tune does cure it, as TFC drives a manual HSE.

Thought I read on here that it wasnt possible on a manual. But some of those tuning threads got so silly that may have got the wrong end of the gear stick.
No lag on my manual with a JE tune, no noticeable lag before I had the tune either though
I thought it was autos that people moaned about lag on anyway The End

Mines auto, and no chips. I have a lag, but I am very used to it.
When the lights turn amber, I just floor it, and win everytime

A remap will help with power delivery and torque boost at low revs on both manual & auto (naturally a Torq-Tune will help more than most ), it's possible you have a 'hardware' problem with the flywheel though - this can cause stalling issues and is usually indicated by vibration through the clutch pedal at approx 10-20% pedal movement

Still getting used to the concept of planting my right foot and the car moves immediately! Just been hoofiing through Herefordshire's back lanes & what a diference having a little magic spell cast on the car has made.

Lost my stalling on uphill take off after the software upgrade. Now quite acceptable. Wonder if there is a problem somewhere.

think the problem might be something else,
i have a manual and i have no lag
No lag at all on my manual, but our 2004 freelander suffered badly from it. Turned out to be the exhaust recirculation valve or something. It needed to go to the dealer for a software update to fix it.http://www.island-weather.co.uk

Took the car in and picked up a FL2 HSE loaner, how come it is so responsive to the throttle? Positively leaps away from the lights etc. OK it's a much lighter car but the whole engine/gearbox setup seems much more lively and agile than the D3.
