Auto box staying in gear

Hi I'm a new boy on here do any of you boffins know why my discovery 3 stays in first gear when it's red hot but not every time it's done it twice in 3 months I've had the gearbox oil changed with the correct oil the gearbox is smooth no banging or anything like that can a torque converter hold and not let the box change ? The brake switch has two contacts - one fr the brake lights, one to tell the ECU that you are braking.

The contacts are "cheap" (Not gold) and due to the low current of the logic circuit the contacts don't self clean and eventually stick closed. When the ECU sees the brake operating it doesn't change gear.

No need to reset the car when you change the switch - though would be an idea to get the fault codes read regardless to make sure nothing is untoward.

I had a similar issue that turned out to be a blown brake bulb.

No! Perfectly logical when you understand the system, also stops peeps driving round with only brake light working Whistle

It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I think the issue has been sorted the gearbox had to much oil in it around half to 3 quarters of a litre the oil had been put in to cold not at the correct temperature
