Having traded in my trusty 07 MY manual D3 for a 62 plate D4 I am now in the process of getting the car how I would like it
On my previous disco I had a cheap and nasty phone holder which was attached to the front air vent and rested on the dashboard
The D4 with the screen and more up to date dash doesn't really suit my old holder so I am looking for something which will do a good job at holding the phone and also allow charging from the front 12 V power socket
I have seen the Brodit system advertised and commented on favourably on this forum
If anyone has one on their D4 I would appreciate some help in answering a couple of questions
1) is it easy to install and in doing so are you likely to damage the dash trim
2) once installed if the phone is connected via a cable to the front driver side power socket is access to any controls impaired
3) if the Brodit is fixed to the dash by the front vent next to the screen and near the driver is it easily visible
4) has anyone removed a Brodit holder and if so is there any visible damage caused by the adhesive strip or on the dash where it is forced in
Many thanks in anticipation for any help
Steve

I have used brodit mounts on a number of cars including my MY12 D4
The brackets fit in between existing trim or very strong self adhesive strips, which are easily removed with no damage. If you go for the active holders it is just like putting your phone in a dock and charging.
The screen is easily visible in the position close to the air vent although they do other locations as well

I can also highly recommend the brodit clip! It works very well! I have the one for the upper position, near the vent.
1) The install is easier than getting the door open and the car running. I didn't use the adhesive tape on the back, I just clipped it in, it works now for nearly one and a half years, without any movement.
2) Everything is easy to reach, nothing is blocked. The only thing, that is "blocked" for 10% is the Start button.
3) The visibility is great, you can see everything.
4) I pulled it out one or two times, for cleaning purposes, nothing is left behind, no scrathces or anything like that. But as stated above, I didn't use the adhesive strips, simply not necessary.
If you want, I can make some pics. Just let me know! Cheers Patrick from Munich

The Brodit bracket looks like it will hide the phone behind the wheel? I'm guessing that is not the case.

I use both Brodit's, one for iPod (left of H panel), one for phone (nr air vent). You can get an additional flat plate from Brodit to move the mounted position of the holder left or right whch we've used on SWMBO's MY16 just to give the indicator stalk a little more clearance. Both use a Hechter adjustable cradle as they're not phone specific & a 50cm cable to charge which cuts down on litre of cable flapping around.

I have both brackets also and have never used the supplied tape when fitting them, they are quite secure without it Cheers Ian

The final piece of the brodit phone holder I ordered arrived today and on assembling it and putting it in the car I find that it is very close to the indicator arm
That said the fit and quality of the holder is exceptional and I would highly recommend it
I have seen that you can buy an extension piece which I think I will be doing
Whilst this will move the phone over the driver air vent I do think it will make using the indicator arm easier

I found a clever one on FB. That slides into your cd slot. I can put 2 devices on it. Really good piece of kit.

I've got the CD slot one. It does have a habit of becoming lose and slipping out that's the only annoyance. *now enjoying* D5 Namib Orange HSE 68
