Morning All,
My '10 plate has decided that the brake pads are worn. Odd, since they were replaced last summer, and to look/feel (without removing the wheels), they seem ok. Am thinking it's more likely to be a sensor issue.
Are there only two sensors (n/s front and o/s rear)?
What about the handbrake pads, do they have a sensor too?
How does the sensor work, is it normally open circuit, and completes via the disk when worn, or does is it a complete circuit and gets broken by the grinding action of the disk? (I can see how it would work in either case, just wondering what it is on these machines).

Yes only two sensors, they wear through the sensor creating open circuit. It is possible that you have a sticky calliper or slider and have worn one pad down or the sensor hmay have been damaged, worth taking the wheel off to check.
The other possibility of course is a wiring problem elsewhere, but start with the basics at each sensor Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Finally got a peaceful weekend to take a closer look into this warning (after a quick inspection back in March showed the pads weren't worn).
I clearly didn't fit the brake sensor correctly on the rear. The cable had slipped out of one of it's clips and then drooped low enough for the drive-shaft to wear it through.
Sigh!
Currently I've bypassed the sensor with a bit of wire, but plan is to re-joint the sensor cable and pop it back in next weekend!
