Help syncing second hand ecu to 2012 discovery 4

I have got a second hand engine ecu for a MY12 D4 I want to remap this ecu but I am having difficulty in finding someone who can make the ecu work with my car. I have been told that because the vin is stored in the ecu the it is impossible to make it work with my car. How have people who had their cars remapped with a second ecu had this done ? did they buy a brand new ecu?
Thanks Dave

Pete can do it for you,but he will need both ECU's to do it, so you will have to go to him or remove your original ECU and post them both to him.
I would ring him first though

Is it not possible to pair the 2nd ECU to the vehicle first so that you only need to post 1 ECU to Pete?

Robbie that's wrong Pete will need both ECU's as I suggested,to make the old in to the one fitted to the car.

ok thanks, does this mean that both ecu's have to be opened? I have read the ecu programs out of the salvage ecu and found that the vin number is stored in the eprom 3 times and once in the flash. I can replace to salvage ecu vin with my cars vin using a simple hex editing program, I just wonder if this enough to get the car to recognize the salvage ecu and then I can get the immo synced?
Cheers Dave

If the car is 2012 its no doubt out of warranty so opening the original ecu will not cause any warranty problems.

Once open read the data from the original ecu and write it into the salvaged ecu and you will have a matching pair of ecus both running on the car.

This is the safest without having issues with the steering comlum lock coming on and going out of sync rendering your car dead on the drive for a long time.

What tool have you used to readout the spare ecu ?

Pete

Pete thanks very much for the info I did not realise it was that easy to clone the land rover ecu. I have genuine Alientech K-Tag and kess v2 masters. I wanted to have a second ecu as I didn't want the hassle of opening the ecu everytime the mot is due as I want to delete the egr and dpf and do a stage 1 remap.
The ecu I got has same part numbers and hard ware numbers, I have some sealant coming this week so will have a go this week.
Thanks again

No problem, the Ktag will do all the clone you need. Read one, Write the other without issues making sure you write all parts and not just map area.

Of course once you have done the clone you will be able then to write your map and put just that map area back in the 2nd cloned ecu and your done.

You should see in your tuning editing software the ecu serial numbers and things also, these are worth making a note of should you need them in the future or have to put back the clone to its factory state for what ever reason.

PS, check out spider boot also http://www.flashtec.ch/index.php/products/126-spiderboot

Well after several variations of maps I decided not to remove the DPF and EGR remap and just do a straight remap as I had alot of grey smoke on start up when the DPF was removed.

After doing alot of research I managed to find various torque limiting maps (17 maps), turbo pressure maps (11 maps), drivers wish (22 maps), rail pressure (5 maps), nm to iq (6 maps), start of injection (25 maps), injection time per cc (1 map) and lambda limitation by air mass (1 map).

So after adjusting the maps I now have a much more responsive car that I am getting a fair few more miles per tank.

Thanks to Pete for his help in sorting the info I needed to clone the ecu and get me started on the remapping jouney.
