I thought the 2.7 snapped its crank as well??
I would go for a D4 3.0l personally. Well I did!

[quote="Sloane Ranger"]So would you go for the 2.7 2009
Or perhaps a better spec lower mileage D3 2009?
Main reason for the purchase is we need 3 full seats across the back for baby/toddler seats, a boot we can fill with kids pushchairs pranks and still get the shopping on, oh and now living more remote, 4x4 gives us more security if we need to get about in bad weather.
I guess either would do, if both 2009 and 2.7L, is there that much difference?

Having read up on the cars,I would go for the D4 with a warranty. The D4 is just a nicer place to be.

Thanks again. I'll look at warranty's.
So the proper search begins, D4 3.0L.
Just a question on mileage if you don't mind; what my budget sees me looking at 100K+ miles, what woudl you suggest it's not worth looking higher than?
Cheers.

With warranties from WD - fill in the form on line and wait for the phone call, then negotiate the price and conditions. Get betterment excluded.
As to the car, once you know what spec and colour combo you can live with base your decision on condition and documentation ( receipts and service details )
Better to buy a 160k car with a careful owner that has just been used to travel up and down the motorway, has a few stone chips but has been well looked after.
Or say a 100k car that has had a number of owners, used for the school run and had a few dogs charging around in it, been filled with DIY building material or towing a massive tin tent a few random service stamps, mis matched worn tyres and only one chewed key
Mileage does't have to scare you off ..
To give an example, D3 2.7 : 425k km mid-2016 from brand new back in 2005.D4
Disco4.com sticker
D3 11y, 425k km - sold, miss it though (MAR, DNK, NOR, SWE, SCO, WAL, MUD ...)

Another quick question, I have heard the disco will accommodate 3 children car seats. Has anyone tried, I have a baby seat and two high back car seats to fit in.
Thanks again.

It's a push to get three child seats in middle row of seats but can be done depending on the design of the child seat , but then what else is in the market that can do it ? Kids love it as they sit up high and can see out of the windows , if you get one with the right spec they will love the toys a discovery comes withD3 Java black HSE now gone

If it was me I would make sure I have a reserve money pot. These cars don't come cheap when it comes to repairs.

If I knew the implications of converting a van to a car I might be interested, however I don't have the time to look into it.
Thank you for the offer.

I bought a 2010 D4 XS with less than 60k for not a deal more than your budget. Have spent a few quid on upgrades like new wheels/tyres, FBH remote and a few more mods on the way. Best bet is to drive a D3 and a D4 and i think your mind will be made up. (i have now had 3 D3s and 2 D4s)
As a safe family car either one will be hard to beat . Don't be scared by the horror stories, only a small percentage are affected and as i have told people before- Forums are full of bad news about reliability whatever the make/model, lots of people only go on forums when they have a problem
