Oil Leak
Hey Guys
I bought a 2011 Discovery 4 2.7ltr diesel two weeks ago
I drove it 13 hours home and at one point when i pulled over I could smell burning oil, since then I can smell it in the cabin when I have the air conditioning running and sometimes see slight smoke coming out of the bonnet.
I took the bottom guard/plates off the car and there was a fair amount of black oil around the place, only saw one fresh looking drip. I wiped everything I could see clean so that I will eventually know where the leak originates but it seems to be coming from high up in the engine.
long story short the highest point I physically see where the oil is starting is the guard which sits atop of the turbo - I have marked this on the picture below, first thoughts were maybe it was a leaking oil filter but it seems too far to the right of the engine bay to be coming from the oil filter? (had a service only a month ago by landrover) so does anyone know what else could be dripping oil here? (and how I get to it??)
thanks, Luke

btw, had a mechanic have a look at it and the oil leak was from the rear camshaft seal.
First mechanic quoted 3.3K as the whole body needs to be removed
Landrover mechanic quotes $950
first win for landrover, possibly ever. I didnt ask but I assume they have another way to do it without taking the body off.

The official process is definitely body on, with a few special tools needed. Would be damned tight though. You'd be getting the guy with the smallest hands to do it.

Brook vale Land Rover is possibly land rover's best service shop ever, final bill came in even cheaper again. $850.
That's two firsts.. they beat the price of a non genuine shop, and they came in even lower than the quote they gave me.
restoring my faith slowly.
