Alarm Sensor (ywc500350) - how to fit

Can someone help my insanity and tell me how the alarm sensor, or to be precise the plastic housing, fits?

Mine, which was glued on by the previous owner, has fallen out and I can't see anything obviously wrong with it, especially when I compare to others for sale. But it will not click into place so I'm obviously missing a trick.
