Had an issue with the rear brakes getting hot on my D4. booked it in for calipers, discs and pads. when the work was done the calipers appeared to be working fine, piston would push back in easy enough. watched them do this several times to prove. any way they reckoned the pads where sticking in the slider. so they have cleaned them all up fitted new discs and pads. Now the rear right disc using an infrared thermometer is still getting hot compared to the others. trips with very little braking right is at 54 deg others are at 36 degs with a bit of heavy braking the right one can get to 110 degs with the others at 68-70 degs. they have stripped that brake down again and it still appears that the piston in the caliper is free to move and they have removed paint from the pads and ensured the pads are moving in the slider.
should I know replace the caliper and slider just in case or is it likely to be anything else

When they checked the EPB again they found...?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
They didn't check the EPB, however when all assembled the wheel was spinning good and the EPB hadn't been used between then and taking the readings. could this still be an issue even though it wasn't used

Using your infrared thermometer check the difference on the disc area the pad runs on ( the shiny bit 8) ) and the hub part where the epb shoes are under. If it's the outer part of the disc then a caliber problem, but hotter near the centre, epb issue. I would always recommend an epb strip down free off, clean, adjust and bed in every couple of years anyway, to ensure trouble free operation.

Follow Steve's advice above but in answer to your question the EPB clearances are small and these change when the brakes are heated through use - the bell housing for the EPB is part of the brake disc.

Well checked it the Hub part is not hot at all so looks like the caliper needs changing. will also put a new slider on to be sure. thanks for the advice

I'd be tempted to service the handbrake while you are there, even if it's not the cause this time..... it will be soon !
