Restricted/Limited Performance? |
|
Since a few days I got the message "Restricted Performance". The message pops up when I run a shorter distance with cold engine, turn off the car and a while later start and drive away. If I turn off and restart after 10-20 minutes, the message is gone. Anyone recognize the error? Discovery 4 SDV6, SE, 2010

Could be any number if things.
I had the message on my first D4.
1st time was a sticking turbo actuator, and the second time something to do with a vacuum pipe disconnected.
Best to get the codes read . Duncan

Could it be the DPF is blocked? If so, a brisk drive for 30(?) minutes or so should clear it. It's in the handbook somewhere I believe. I could very well be wrong mind you Lol

Thanks.
At the garage they identified a recorded fault: "Water in fuel filter '. I could possibly see the occasional drop that were dropped out. Thereafter there was no error in a week ... but now the error message poppes up again regardless of whether the engine is hot or not.
N.B. That the car almost is always running long distances (5-6 h) on the highway so it shouldn´t be condensation.
Do you have any suggestions on what errors that may be mistaken with water in the fuel filter? Discovery 4 SDV6, SE, 2010

Hej Robert!

Another cause of "restricted performance" is a cracked plastic inlet manifold.
3.0L TDV6 Valve Cover Split And/Or Cracked
This affects 3.0 TDV6 (2010-2015) vehicles in vin range 508020-765561
TSB LTB00768v2
CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation: A customer may report a concern that the vehicle has restricted performance.
Cause: Material thickness and fillet radius of the valve cover not to specification. Suggested Customer concern code MX2.
Action: Should a customer express concern, follow the Service Instruction outlined below.
PARTS:
LR073585 Left valve cover
LR074623 Right valve cover
Discovery 4/LR4 (LA) - Right 7.7 hours labour
Discovery 4/LR4 (LA) - Left 8.2 hours labour
Discovery 4/LR4 (LA) - Full Set 13.0 hours labour
Don't panic. Landrover should pay. It's a manufacturing defect.
However, the dealer will probably deny all knowledge of this TSB & ask you to pay.

Our MY10 car had been going through phases of showing 'restricted performance' for over a year. It would appear within about 5 seconds of starting the car but have no affect on the performance. I changed the fuel filter housing and it hasn't happened since, apparently bad/corroded contacts can cause this.
