When the car asks for oil when you check the oil, do you usually add what it asks for, or add just a bit less to avoid any overfilling etc?
Mine is asking for a little top up when the electronic dip stick is checked so wondering if I should add what it's asking for, or just a bit less?
I've checked it a couple of times and it's always asked for the same amount.

Sorry to ask a stupid question but all I can see in the photo is a gauge showing the oil to be slightly over half way between minimum and maximum, i.e. within the limits allowed and what on a traditional dipstick to me would be considered OK with no need to add oil. Plus, of course, the word 'OK' next to the gauge gives a big hint.
Where does it say you need to add oil and how much?

Sorry, I may have confused the Op slightly. His looks fine. No issues there.
My dipstick is asking for some oil. Says it where the OK normally is. Just wondering if I should add the requested amount, or a bit under to avoid overfilling?

Don't see any reason why a D4 should not be treated the same as any other car, i.e. add half what you think it needs then check it again before adding a little more and so on until you get the correct reading making sure you allow sufficient time for the oil you've added to drain down to the sump after adding each amount.

It could be using more oil than normal due to the time travelling you are doing!

Best not to add any oil. It says OK so it is telling you it doesn't need oil. When it needs some it will specify the amount to add. Measure it out and add it otherwise you risk overfilling it which is very bad for the engine.FFRR Westminster TDV8

used to top up old bus with no issues but this electronic is too funny
Normally an engine that is working optimally and serviced according to specs with the correct oil should not be consuming oil in between services.
For example, in 6 years, my Puma has never needed a top-up between services, and neither has my wife's 2 Audis, nor our previous 110 & D2 Td5.
Some VAG TFSis do, due to the nature of their design, but that's beside the point.

Mine has dropped 2 notches in 11 months and 10,000 miles.
Just keep an eye on it and make sure the car is level when you check it.FFRR Westminster TDV8

Perhaps it was never there in the first place?
The 'max' level is just that, the level which must not be exceeded, it is not the level which it must be kept at - 'max' does not mean you have all the oil and 'min' doesn't mean you have none at all... the reading shows what the oil level is relative to the upper and lower tolerances of what enables the engine to operate properly without risking damage to internal components caused by incorrect oil levels.
The level shown is comfortably within the upper and lower limits and the system is confirming this by saying 'OK' next to the read out. This is basic car maintenance stuff.
Keep a regular eye on the oil level as per the reminder on the fuel filler and as the man says, when it needs oil it will say and show how much to add. D4 - Stornoway Grey

Could (a) never have been there in the first place, (b) car on a downward facing slope (causes an under read) or (c) not left long enough after driving to settle.
I always check mine in the same place each morning when cold (I know manual says warm - but its consistency that's important)
Despite what some folk on this site say (i.e. Bruce) I personally prefer the electronic version to the horrible bobbles on wire version on the D3 which had all the negatives of the electronic version (waiting / position of car etc.) plus being a swine to read without the benefits of the convenience of the electronic version
