Panel of gear-knob
Hello everybody,
sorry for my bad english. This post is from Germany.
We just took over our new LR4 (so MY16) and it has a "dent" in the panel of the gear-shifting knob, left of the embossed Land Rover logo. (Pics attached.)
This dent is clearly visible and was criticized directly at the reception of the vehicle. The dealer has acknowledged the problem and promised to procure a replacement part.
This came within a few days and has the same mistake. They further ordered this part and they all have the identical problem.
Now, after another two weeks, the service manager called and told me: "It's series, state of the art, since there is a point of attachment below this point. It is deformed at the site, because of that".
Can this be? Does anybody have the same problem? Honestly, I can't believe that for a car like this.

Ich würde vorschlagen das der Händler sich einen neuen Kundendienst Leiter sucht, nämlich der jetzige hatt woll seine Tassen nicht alle der Reihe nach!
For the non-German literate on here, I simply suggested his dealer might want to invest in a new service manager as the current one obviously hasn't got all his marbels if he's spouting such drivel. Then added my pic of our MY16 gearknob surround.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
Anyone know how to get that surround piece off? Fairly sure they just clip in place - at least thats what the ones around the stick shifter do.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

I have the same dent. Be advised that it won't push out because it is moulded plastic not metal and if you put too much pressure on it it will snap. I have tried with a hairdryer and it won't budge. If enough of us point this out you never know LR might do something or replace with a later batch. (Mine is MY2014).
They are screwed into place by the way, so they won't pop off.

The size of this dent might depend on how tight the part is fixed from beneath.
I posted this case in the german LR forum as well. Nobody seems to have the problem there.

I took mine off and loosened it to no effect. Replaced it and lo and behold the same dent is there having been gently tightened. Perhaps a bad batch.

Yes, a faulty batch is the case my dealer assumes, too.
As I wrote in the first post, they ordered some other coverings and all showed this issue.
They send me some pictures about that. Actually all of these looked a bit better than my covering, so there will probably exist one better part sometime ...
Can't believe that nobody recognizes this at the production line or during the final quality check as it is very obvious.
