Several error messages........new battery required????
For a while now I have been getting intermittent error messages, mainly "restricted performance" but more recently "suspension fault"
The former doesn't seem to alter performance but once the suspension one kicks in, the ride height is locked in .......so drove back home from Leeds in Access height
Car was recently serviced by Flack( ) who said that his diagnostic box of tricks was reporting the battery at just 40%.
In the service, all the fault codes were all cleared, but they are now popping up daily.
On the 'secret menu' screen the battery voltage with ignition on is between 11.8v and 12.1v
With engine running driving it fluctuates from 13.8v to 14.6v.
Could these errors be caused by the battery
D4 is a 59 plate HSE without the start/stop thingee
I think the battery is original (varta, 12v, 90Ah 950a (SAE) so don't think its a AGM.2000 D2 TD5 - big red tractor no longer with us

Have you tried putting the battery on a good charge? If so did the symptoms improve?
Remember to use a real voltmeter as the 'secret menu' voltages can be way out.

A new battery is well worth it as the alternator charge figures look fine but as Robbie said that voltmeter is no very accurate Stew,

I did read somewhere, that once a battery had been discharged below 50%, then the chances of recovering it were pretty slim. Certainly seems that a new battery would be a good investment! If you can, try to give it a good conditioning charge before you fit it D4 MY14 XXV - RLD/IID BT

no testing gear......getting a cheap one at screwfix tomorrow morning.
I an assuming my existing battery is lead acid.
If I replace like for like, is it just a case of whip the old one out and install the new one, or is there any clever electronic systems / BMS / ECU resetting that would need to be done 2000 D2 TD5 - big red tractor no longer with us

Right........
Battery on charge over night.
Got a little test meter this morning.
Battery voltage (at rest) measured at 12.41v
Battery voltage (at idle) measured at 14.27v
Do these numbers constitute a battery thats F ked

I'd say that's a bit low for a fully charged battery. I'm assuming that you took the reading after the car had gone to sleep, and if so, I'd be looking for more like 12.6 - 12.7v at the current temperatures. The 14v at idle does suggest that your alternator is doing it's job, but it does seem like your battery has had it's day!
As an aside, the best I managed to get into my last battery (AGM) was 12.5v, the dealer agreed to change it for a new one under warranty! Now, if it gets near 12.6, the CTEK gets plugged in!D4 MY14 XXV - RLD/IID BT

When I bought my D4 (also an early 6sp model) the battery was a Bosch AGM supposedly less than 6 months old but I found that the use of the FBH on timer coupled with shortish journeys in cold weather (lights, wipers etc) produced fairly random error messages which usually cleared after a restart. But my nerves couldn't stand it so I invested in a Ctek charger and used it frequently which improved things somewhat - according to the local tyre & battery place all battery readings were OK. After a few months however the warnings returned and didn't always clear on restart so I took it into the dealers who told me that the problem MIGHT BE the battery not being the OEM fitting - said they had seen similar problems before - but they would certainly not guarantee that a new LR battery would solve the problem.
Being a bit OCD (and fed up with warning messages ) I decided to take a chance & let them fit the LR badged (Exide?) new one last September and...................................it seems to have worked!
I do still charge overnight if the car has stood for a few days and the weather is cold but no warning messages since! 2010 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand on GY DTs (was on GG ATs)
