Stop faffing around and get a new battery
My D3 will give 'No special settings' warning when my battery is a bit tired. The only reason I havent changed it yet is that they only pop up after a heavy battery use. Days are getting lighter and warmer (he says with a -2 alert overnight) so Lights/wipers/heated seats will be less used. I expect to change my battery before next winter though. A 40% level in any battery needs it to be removed as you are trying to recover a battery that cannot hold a full charge any more for any length of time.
Actually, try checking the battery after it has sat overnight and see how it looks.Dave

As Skynet says, check the battery in the morning. After a drive or any sort of charging, batteries hold a 'surface charge' which will give you a false reading!
Try and check it in the morning after it has sat all night, let it go to sleep, and then take a voltage reading D4 MY14 XXV - RLD/IID BT

Thanks gents, if I didn't know better I think you're trying to get me to get a new battery
OK, new battery it is.
If I swap for a new lead acid ( i.e. direct replacement) does the car need to be 'reset' with a clever diagnostic thingee or can I just "swap & go"
Also, any pointers for type / supplier of battery 2000 D2 TD5 - big red tractor no longer with us

I'm not positive about a MY10, but the BMS should be reset after a battery change. This can be done by by an IID tool for example.
It may be worth considering upgrading to an AGM battery, which also needs a diagnostic tool to change the settings in the CCF. It may well be worth your while sending Wiggs a PM, as he's not far from you and could give you some good advice and sort it for you D4 MY14 XXV - RLD/IID BT

Direct replacement lead / acid - Exide Premium EA1000 from Tanya.
With Saturday delivery it still worked out about £25 cheaper than Europarts (which will pay for the voltage tester )
Am I right in thinking to give it a full 24hr bench charge before fitting??2000 D2 TD5 - big red tractor no longer with us

Slight side issue but as good a place as any but with the difference of £30 or so between a normal Exide and an AGM Exide is it worth automatically going for AGM is the good old D3s?

I'd stick with the regular one for a D3.
