SDV6 Throttle Body Sticking and Needs Cleaning!
Hello Chaps,
Trouble at the mill this morning on the way to work.
MY 2013 D4 Commercial XS with 65k miles. Just had a service and MOT.
Exactly the same symptoms as 10,000 miles ago. Engine/gearbox under light or constant throttle load stammers/judders with what best feels like hesitation. Goes like stink if you boot it and pulls like a mule (SDV6 with 8-speed gearbox).
The cure 10,000 miles ago was to clean the throttle body butterfly valve/flap arrangement. I’ll wager that is what is happening again. Feels just the same.
Based on the local stealer promising to keep my car for several days and hopes to do something ‘whenever they can’!! How hard a job is it to access this and clean it?
There is a very nice YouTube video of a guy cleaning a TDV6 assembly so before I hack my way into this (electrical engineers are not known for their delicate mechanical skills) is it any harder to access on the SDV6? Are there any other do’s and don’ts or gotchas
I'm sort of ignoring this may be EGR for now. One step at a time
I have also ordered some Mass Airflow Sensor (CiC stuff) cleaner from Amazon for a tenner just in case the issue is emanating from there. I’ll sort that when the aerosol arrives.
Thanks in advance."Track day running - Don't put your foot back on the accelerator until your absolutely sure you don't have to take it off again"

All depends on access, this used to an issue on bmws/minis a few years ago, I just removed the bare minimum for access and used a toothbrush with aerosol carb cleaner and the problem never came back on that car.

That was a known problem on VW too, i had a VR6 that needed cleaning every 5-6 K miles.
I just took the throttle body out and sprayed it with carb cleaner.

Hopefully this helps someone in the future. After having judders/hesitation at constant speed, which finally lead to restricted performance mode. LR dealer said its was a turbo issue and it had to be replaced. Not happy with that as an answer I made them make more inquiries with LR central. Result was a small crack in the EGR pipe. Now replaced and so far so good. $500 instead of $9,500

Throttle body diagrams position & parts (relevant to D5 but I assume the same?)
