OK, got a whine that sounds like a wheel bearing on it's way out and was wondering if there would be any thing I could look for in the way it's driving apart from the noise????
All advice welcomed

Jack it up and check for play but thats not always 100 percent conclusive.

Assuming it is probably the front;
You could try finding an empty road/industrial estate.
Find a smooth turn and exaggerate the apex and turn into the corner more at slow speed.
This normally seems to increase the noise from a wheel bearing.
or
the usual method of jacking up and trying to move the wheel both 12-6 and 9-3.

Thanks Chaps
Yeah I think I need it up in the air so it'll have to wait for the weekend
Seems a bit wandery if that makes sense and the drone doesn't disappear when in neutral
Thanks again

Quick hijack here, should you replace both at the same time? Is there any benefit to doing that ?

It common practice to replace both at the same time.
There are a few reasons, but the best is you will have all the tools out
They are not that expensive as a part from one of the factors on here.
Don't go to LR.
I did both fronts 2 weeks ago - the one I thought was gone was in better condition than the other - they were both shot though.

Easy enough to do once you've managed to get the shaft off the bearing... De-Tango
V8 Brakes
EGRs blanked
Running boards
3 flash indicators and clock on dash
Blingy grille...

I have had a noise like the pads are worn out coming from the front passenger side, put it up off the ground today and no play when grabbed at 12-6 and 9-3, what I did find is that the pads are fine but the top outer edge of the disc was badly corroded with a 2-3mm lip. I think the sound was coming from bits of rusty disc getting stuck in the anti rattle clips. All stripped off wire brushed and reassembled now sounds sweet no squeeling or grinding, the new hub and bearing that I now have will sit and wait until needed I'm sure it won't be too long as now done 14000 on a 07 plate with 19in rims.

I had a terrible whining noise from the front, when I was turning.
I jacked up, and there was no movement whatsoever, 12-6 9-3 all that - I tried everything, but when my mechanic strippedit the bearing was absolutely nackered, so dont know how much value there is in doing that.
Also the noise sounded to everyone as though it was from the front left, and the bearing thatt was nacked was the front right.
good luck, hope it helps 2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

I have a dead rear wheel bearing at the moment. No play in the wheel, but once you start turning the wheel by hand you can feel and hear the notchiness in it. 2008 RRS TDV6 - Chawton White/Black/Lined Oak - 20's, h/k, sunroof - 350K KM.

Definitely better to do both, I replaced the front bearing on the side that was noisy and went for a test run and all was quiet, as I had bought 2 bearings I decided to still do the other side and when I stripped it down the bearing was in a worse condition than the noisy side - there was no 9-3 or 12-6 play at either wheel just a rumbling noise Current:
