Newbie after first D3

Good evening all,

Im thinking of getting myself a Disco 3.
Im hopefully changing jobs in the next few weeks so will no longer need my current vehicle (Vauxhall Vivaro van, im a carpenter by trade) so im after a some luxury to get me to work and have a little play off road in.

I was after a defender, but have converted to a disco.
Im probably going to chop my van in and get one from a dealership.

Basically my questions are:
Are they really quite an upkeep?
Is there much between the pre 2006 models and post? Thats when the tax price changes?
Obviously some are 10 years old, so 100k isnt too bad for mileage? Thats the average of 10k pa

What should I be looking out for? When are the belts due for a change?

Sorry if they are obvious or annoying questions Smile

Thanks
lee

I got my Disco in 09when it was 3years old, when the price dropped quite a lot. I too was a joiner (retired now) I've had 1 or 2 frightening bills to pay, but I really love my Disco3, best car I have owned. I had a VW t5 before but the D3 with a roof rack and an occasional trailer did the job better, plus green lanes at weekend. Very Happy Very Happy permagrin. Thumbs Up

Yes! I'm very gald you didn't use the term "unreliable", because, as I try to get across to people, they are not unreliable so long as you look after them, and thus "quite an upkeep" is spot on. Thumbs Up

The tax increase has no direct bearing on the vehicles, but there are a few model year changes about. There's not much between them through the years though. One main change is that the EU4 engine from 07MY-on requires a software to blank the infamous EGRs while earlier EU3 ones don't. The earlier ones are generally better in fact, 06MY being the best MY. Yes, they take miles very well, just as long as the transmission etc. has been serviced and looked after. Thumbs Up

Too much to list TBH! Get searching and reading as much as possible. Belts are due at 105k/7 years (whichever is sooner). Search for the oil pump/cam belt tensioner issue. The oil pump casing has been known to break, with catastrophic results. A weaker version was fitted from 07MY (possibly late 06MY also) to part way through 08MY which seems more at risk but it can happen to any vehicle. It's therefore recommended that the oil pump be changed with the cam belts. Wink

There are no annoying questions here, and it is only ever an obvious answer that could potentially be held in contempt. Smile

Good luck. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the replies

I'll be sure to search for a good one that I'm comfortable with and not just rush in and buy the first one I see
