New car Pulls to the left!

Ok so I've had my new disco 2 weeks now....set the steering wheel straight and it goes off to the left (regardless of road camber)
Its gone back in to the dealer today and they said thats normal.....
I asked if the had checked the tracking /geometry - they won't check this as the "fault" is normal?!
Or they will check it but only if i pay for it??????

Ive had a disco 3 and a RR sport and these didn't pull to one side.......
I totally get road camber but surely a steering wheel should be straight to go in a straight line on a flat carpark etc????

Has anyone else had this and what did you do about it rather than just accept it????

Thanks Smile

That is absolutely not right! How can they say that's normal?

I wouldn't even be happy with that on 200K mile car let alone a new one.

Crazy right!?

His answer was - they all do that because of there big wheels!?
Well i would rather drive a transit that goes in a straight line and have 30k in my pocket?

Hopefully its just the service nobby bloke being a nob and it gets sorted!!

Take it for a 4 wheel alignment, explain the issue to the tester and get a full written report, then bill LR for the work Thumbs Up

So they've just called me saying all the alignment is right - there going to give me the readings to show it.

But then I'm just getting a car back that doesn't go straight??????????????????

arrrrrrrgh!

You could try the modified 'if first you don't succeed…. then just give-up' approach.

Hand the car back with a letter explaining the reason for rejection. Remember to say that normally you would expect a direct replacement but as the dealer has stated that 'they all do that because they have big wheels' so the only option is a full refund.

Nice one Robbie. Perhaps putting cc Land Rover Customer Services might focus the dealers mind a bit more too

Do you mean the steering wheel needs aligning ? Mines not straight - they don't want to fix that either.

New car should drive straight with the steering wheel straight/level and not pull left/right on a flat road.

But, first thing to check is Tyre Pressures - check all are correct when cold.

Second, although a very long shot with a new motor, you may have a binding calliper - check to see if any one on the gets warmer than the others.

In any case, involve LR CS as the car is not correct.
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Reject the car

I have just had some "bushes & things" done + the propshaft replaced...
My D3 on collection felt like it was new....hands off the wheel at any speed even on bumpy roads...no problem.

I haven't had any car that "pulled".....

To prove it take a demo car out & make comparisons.....take the dealer with you
Better than that ask if you can take out say the sales directors (or some other dealership "Demi-God") & compare this also

But do reject the car on the grounds it isn't right & the dealers ship either can't or won't fix it
 BREXIT - done properly.

After you've done all the above find a new dealer, the one you're using employs idiots. Or CBAed with you. Either way, don't waste your money on them.

The bit that saddens me is you won't be the first person they have fobbed off with that kind of tosh.

I used to do the odd PDI for a local main dealer (not LR) when new sales were short staffed. I hardly ever came across new car's pulling one side or the other. As said, a D4 shouldn't pull. My D3 with 176K miles on it doesn't.

Had a D3 with a kind of similar issue, it was the steering wheel that wasn't straight. When you say it goes off to the left is that when you let go of the wheel or when your holding it at 12 O'clock? Dealer checked my alignment and all sorts and said it was fine but it just felt wrong driving it straight with the wheel not quite straight. It only got sorted when they replaced my steering wheel for peeling under warranty !
