Doors frozen shut - dont get caught stuck outside
As winter seems to have finally arrived (first dusting of snow here in Brum this morning), its time to make sure that you can get into your D3/D4. You might have a very capable motor, but look damn stupid when you cant get into it because the door seals are frozen shut.
I noticed mine were just on the edge of sticking when I went out last night, so first job this morning was a spray and wipe round all the seals with some silicone (I just use the "back to black" spray I have in the garage, works fine). Dont forget there's 2 seals for each door, the door side and the body side.

Should we post the reminder about frozen snow for those who have fitted side steps, or just wait for the comedy moment when they cannot open the door?

It's also worth mentioning the damage that can be caused to wiper blades frozen to the screen that have been left on 'Auto' overnight and try to wipe the screen when you turn the ignition on.
It also applies to any amount of snow piled up on the screen.

That's a great tip, mine were certainly a bit sticky this morning at -2 in Edinburgh and a dusting of the white stuff.
Thanks al!

A rub of Vaseline on the rubbers will do the job as well.Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.
-17 this morning. Doors opened, car started first time, FHB came on, windscreen defrosted quickly, heated seats worked a treat, snow and ice covered roads handled superbly. Perfect car!
Only odd thing was the weird noise as the ice on the roof began to break up as the car warmed up - sounds like the sunroof cracking!

I've only just started using auto-wipe after 18 months with my D3, I found it very useful with the d3/4 short overhang puddle splash syndrome lately but it did catch me out yesterday when it was frozen in the morning

Not sure Vaseline on rubber is a great idea. Silicone just loves rubber, so that is what I use.
