No need for it! Just good regular oil changes and use decent oil. If your worried about risk of the engine then there is more risk of something going wrong if you do it than if you dont!
My concern is loosening particles in the engine which would otherwise stay put. Served my time rebuilding diesel engines for Volvo and have built many an engine. Personally after reading about it i wouldnt do it to one of my cars and i will never offer it to a customer.

Thanks for the reply!!
.... I have always made the oil changes in its correct time and with oils of the best specifications indicated by the manufacturer and with original filters. Even so I have recently had the need to replace 2 injectors and a failure of EGRs has always given me for a long time (MY06) and given that I already have 260,000 km I thought that cleaning as magical as this would be a good idea...or not.

If the intake has a build up of carbon and crap i remove it and clean it manually. Dont worry about the exhaust side. Use some decent fuel and a good well known brand of fuel additive and take the car for a good run revving the engine up and down the gears to create some heat and that will sort out your exhaust side.
I have seen some huge build ups of carbon and crap in intakes and the thought of loosening that up on the intake side scares me!
Take the time to remove the inlet and clean it manually and prevent the risk of anything going through your engine!
