Change tow electrics from 12n+12s to 13 pin...

I want to swap the twin electrics currently fitted to my 13my D4, into the 13 pin type. Is it just a case remove the old, and plug in the new? Is there a different car config for 13 pin type?

If you have the tow fuse box in place and are just swapping the 2 7pin for 13pin I have a genuine spare connector. I'm 100% D3/4 are the same. You would just need to find out if there is any computer updates required but I'm sure once it's done once it's same for all tow electrics

So the connectors not the same? Internal or the external (behind the light) part?

Connectors are different .. It dosent have a fuse box and you have to tell the car which set of electrics are fitted

Is it not possible to disconnect the wires at the back of 12S/12N connector & replace with a 13 pin & leave wiring to the vehicle alone.

There is an adaptor from Halfords for about £15.

I'd go with an adaptor. I've got a 13 pin plug, but occasionally hitch up a 7 pin trailer. Just use an adaptor. Only a fiver off ebay and works perfectly well. Point being, no matter what electrics you have connected up to the car, you'll occasionally want something different.

its only the lower part of the loom thats different (the bit that goes down behind the bumper), so you only need to swap that part. I know as I did this on mine.

Anyone done this? I'm tempted as just got new tin tent with 13 pin and trailer is already 13 pin. LR fitted twin elecs to mine on purchase. I forgot to state 13 pin at the time. Guess you end up with a spare negative? Is this why the configuration should be altered to state 13 pin fitted.

Ahh - now there's the rub - I dont think you can get just the lower part on its own.

Any "easy" way to do it is take out the lower part, remove the 12S and 12N sockets are rewire into a 13pin socket. I did this on the first D4 and it worked OK without any reconfig of the CCF.

Another forum member brought this off me for his MY15 D4 and it still works OK.
