Airborn D3 in Central Australia |

I am still a lowly D2 owner but I thought you guys might appreciate this short video. We recently had a 3 week trip around central Australia including the remote Simpson Desert. We had 9 D2's and 1 D3 which was only 1 week old.
This was the D3 crossing the first sand dune on our trip.

The D3 performed faultlessly for the entire trip over some very very rugged roads.

I am guessing the Africans don't think the D3 is tuff enough???

Donkeys are cheaper and you get more mileage per feeding

I am still on the D2 (which after 50,000km has given me countless problems) and was convinced when the D3 came out that with the amount of electricary to go wrong it was a disaster waiting to happen.
I have heard 2nd hand of a few people who have had problems with their D3 but I wanted to wait and make my decision after seeing how it went first hand. Like Africa, Australia probably has some of the worst roads and harshest tracks in the world. For the past 3 weeks we have been in the central Australian desert where the corrugations and sand dunes really pound the car. The d3 had only been picked up from the dealer 1 week before we left and the only real modification was a set of all terrain tyres. It was towing an off-road trailer for the trip and with exception of a couple of busted mudflaps it did not have a problem and the owner really drove it hard.
Everyone on the trip was pleasantly surprised and I don't think any of us would question whether the D3 should be in the bush again.

Like any vehicle , things can go wrong in the bush . My defender has always got me home , but often needed surgery in the bush . My biggest concern is that you can't do this on the D3 and you can't even tow it very far .
Also I have now bought a trailer which would also complicate things . But I suppose I'll be better after my first trip , because at the moment everything is still new as far as the car's and trailers performance go

Walker - thanks for posting - I'm really looking forward to getting my D3 outback - and great to hear that it does come with the "flying" function!
I had my D3 on a trip this weekend (with Walker in his D2, and about 8 other D2's, and a couple of Prado's) - contrastingly in the snow in Victoria's NE (one of the few roads that get's closed in winter in Vic due to snow, but that you can still access if you take care and some good mates!) - I'll post some pics. Again though, it performed brilliantly - didn't miss a beat - thought I was stuck a couple of times, but it just kept going - the traction control in the D3 is just fantastic!

Looks like the last section of the Rig Road heading towards the K1 junction? Look in my gallery, also on the rig road. 06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.

Catweasel - you've got a sharp eye! I reckon it's a bit hard to tell - the LR badge could be dirty and not showing...
No better things to do than watch for LR badges where they should be?
