Error codes
I decided to get myself an IIDtool. When I first used it I had a few error codes, but they were all logged from about 4 months ago and appeared to be from low voltage. I cleared the codes and have had none since.
However i have noticed the air suspension having trouble increasing the ride hight and have had the normal ride hight only message.
The codes logged since are U0421-68 (2B) and C1A20-64 (AF).
I have the Hitachi compressor fitted, and I'm thinking of looking at the silica as when I took the compressor housing off it was full of mud.
I can leave the car parked for a few days and the hight does not drop, so I'm sure there are no leaks.
Any other ideas?

C1A20-64 (AF) is "Pressure increases too slow when filling reservoir" which usually points to a leaking reservoir/air tank or the compressor struggling to generate enough pressure to fill the reservoir/air tank at the expected rate.
The other fault is an "Invalid data received from ride level control module" fault.
Your profile states you drive a 2011 D4 but you claim to have the Hitachi compressor fitted. Is this correct?
How do you know you have the Hitachi compressor fitted? The Ride Height Module software needs to match the type of compressor you have fitted otherwise you will run into problems.

I've taken the compressor cover off, the part number on the dryer is rqq500020, I'm sure thats the Hitachi compressor.

That's the old part number for VUB504700 which is, indeed, a Hitachi dryer unit.
I suspect you have a crack in between the red and blue pipe collars on the dryer cap. Try squirting some soapy water between the red and blue pipe collars and I expect you will see some bubbles start to appear. It will most likely have a hairline crack between them.
Curious as to why your 2011 D4 has a Hitachi compressor fitted, though. Suggest you check which firmware your Ride Level Module has installed using your IIDTool:
Ecu Flash > RLM-Suspension > Identify Actual Firmware
And you should be able to tell which firmware is installed from that.
The only thing I can think of is that the original AMK compressor was damaged in previous life (maybe the previous owner/garage jacked the car up on it?) and it was replaced by a second hand Hitachi one as a cheap, short-term, fix.

No, just Hitachi or AMK is sufficient for this.
I guess you have two options: Try and repair/replace the dryer or replace the compressor with an AMK one.
The dryer unit (VUB504700) is no longer available from Land Rover and you would be looking at a second hand one (I have one which was only used for a couple of months before I replaced the Hitachi compressor on my D3 with an AMK one) or an aftermarket repair kit (readily available on eBay) which include a replacement dryer cap.
Check for leaks first, though, but I suspect that is where your problem lies.
If you want my old dryer, let me know and I'll come up with a price.
Still curious as to why a 2011 D4 has a Hitachi compressor!

Thanks Steve, I appreciate the help and advice. I have found a leak, it's coming from the orange connector.

That looks to be where your problem lies.
I understand the dryers can be replaced in situ without removing the compressor from the chassis rail. I imagine it to be quite a fiddly operation to do, that way.
If the leak is only coming from the orange collar then you may be able to try and reseat the pipe in the connector. Find a small, open ended, spanner that will go around the pipe but is still small enough to apply pressure to push the collar in whilst you pull the pipe out. Then push the pipe back into the orange connector and check for leaks again.
If it's still leaking then your only option is to replace the dryer/dryer cap or replace the compressor with a new AMK one. Probably not something that most people would want to be doing the week after Christmas (about £450).
If you intend to remove the compressor from the chassis, you're almost certainly going to need some new captive nuts when the time comes to put it back on. The old ones will probably be quite rusty. Part number RYH500170:
Let me know if you want my Hitachi dryer as I'm in the middle of a garage clearout and it will be appearing in the For Sale section in the next week or so.

Steve
2010-2012 MY D4's were manufactured with either the same Hitachi compressor as the D3 or an earlier design AMK unit depending, I guess, on what they could get their hands on at any given time.

Well, I have replaced the old dryer. No leaks visible, but when I'm changing the ride height to off road I am still getting the same C1A20 error.
