Grrrrrrrrrrr! Restricted Performance!

We had to leave the York Caravan Club site this evening owing to rising river levels. I can't say that I was looking forward to towing the tin tent home in the awful winds, but had no option. All was well until we pulled onto the A64 and were heading directly into the wind. I accelerated up to about 50 MPH (and was going to go no quicker for safety reasons), and then got the dreaded "Restricted Performance" message, with the immediate loss of power.

Fortunately I was able to keep going at that sort of speed, but it was hard work, and the car was gutless.

I had the same whilst towing several months ago, and the fault was "turbo overboost" I seem to remember. I have towed several times since without issue, but looks like I'll be taking it for further investigation on Monday!

On the positive side though, the car kept the caravan in check despite the winds. I know we're all slightly biased, but I bought both my D3 and D4 on the back of being a judge (now the performance judge) at the What Car?/Practical Caravan/C&CC annual Tow Car Awards. Great choice if they could get the reliability sorted. Admittedly in my experience the D4 has been much better than the D3, but......................

I had it happen once when towing and cruise control on. Forgot about it up a hill and next thing yellow triangle. Fixed itself on start the next morning and been good as ever since. Thumbs Up

It was the red triangle for me, and it cleared on re-starting. Been fine today, but still the second time it's happened, so still going to get the codes etc.

Update. From what I can gather, a new turbo is required. I'll find out more tomorrow when I am in a better position to speak.
