Commercial order dates - running out of time...

Just thought that I'd share in case anyone is thinking of a Commercial order but equally putting off the moment of order for any reason...

I've had an e-mail from LR fleet sales, highlighting that the cut-off time for ordering a Commercial is likely to be March 2016 and all vehicles will have to be registered by August 2016 as this is the cut-off date for the Euro V engines...

My current expectations (and borne out by comments from a few folks within JLR) are that they won't be offering a D5 Commercial variant so I now have something of a quandary... my Commercial is due to change in March 2017 so I am faced with a decision:

Order a new Commercial for August delivery, 6 months ahead of the planned change date?

Extend the lease for a further year on the current vehicle in the hope that replacement Defender will a) be to my taste, b) be affordable and c) offer something that gives me the comfort, speed and practicality of my current Commercial.

So, back to topic, if you want a Commercial, you'll need to act fast as I dare say they will only have a set capacity through SVO and when they're gone, they're gone!

D4 Commercial (2014MY) - gone

That's why I bought a new one this year as the new defender I was told is still a long way off and is likely to built outside the UK. when I said I should be ok until 2018 before changing again the response was that they didn't think a replacement for a commercial woul be ready by then Big Cry

The death of the Disco commercial may be a bonus for Mitsubishi and its S/LWB Shogun commercials.

I suppose it depends on who you actually talked to at JLR, but I wouldn't really believe them anyway.

I asked at a dealer when the D2 came out and was told they wouldn't do a commercial D2, then the same when the D3 came out. I also spoke to Jaguar about an XF estate and was told they weren't doing one, the XF sportbrake was announced a couple of weeks later. Rolling Eyes

It won't happen. No point asking a dealer.

I have a similar issue. The Ford Ranger is the only other option that I like the look of but a pickup is not to everyones taste!

I've tried a pick up, had a new D Max Utah but the 3.5t towing is only ok if the pick up is empty! I found the back end very unstable when turning, the trailer would push the tail end around if the road was wet. Also made the whole set up very long and poor turning circle meant that to reverse the trailer in a tight spot was hard work. I don't think LR realise there is nothing like the commercial for towing.

When loaded with my machine the trailer and load combination is 3450 KG so it's a real test to these vehicles that say they will Tow 3500KG. Once you get off major roads and hit lanes ,Tracks and fields the D4 steps up another gear compared to a pick up.

Looking at the mules, the D5 is going to be the Censored offspring of an illicit liason between a Discover Sport and a Range Rover Sport - to be honest, I don't dislike the shape and think it's simply a case of JLR bringing the model range into revised 'family' resemblances...

The input from JLR has been fairly generic - as with all such things, much of the information is strictly embargoed but our daughter was there on a summer placement and has simply said that 'the D5 is very different to my current vehicle' (this was before the mules came out...) and that it didn't look like a Commercial would be part of the line up.

This has been borne out by a conversation with the Fleet Sales team who have also referred to information being embargoed at present but suggested that there is no advance notice on prices etc for a Commercial, giving further credence to the thought of no Commercial option...

Big Cry

I'm going to take a look at an Amarok but really, really want to stick with LR if possible - having had 2 x D4's, had the wife in 2 x FL2's and a previous selection of Range Rovers, I am kinda loyal to the brand...

Presumably this means that any D4s, not just commercials must be registered by August 2016.

Is the cut-off date 31st August, or 30th July?

What will happen presumably is that dealers will register all stock on their hands at the cut-off date.

The presumption must surely be that the D5 will be available by the same date, or is this unrealistic?

Here's the e-mail that I had:

"As a valued Land Rover customer I would like to inform you that the production of the Discovery 4 Commercial SE vehicle will cease around the mid-year point of 2016. If you have a requirement right now or in the future for this versatile and capable vehicle, you need to place your order before the 31st March 2016 to ensure the best chance of securing a production slot for one of the last Discovery Commercial vehicles.

The Discovery Commercial is powered by a Euro5 compliant 3.0 V6 diesel engine, European legislation dictates that vehicles with Euro5 compliant engines must be registered by 31st August 2016.

If you’d like to find out more about the latest model or discuss your Jaguar Land Rover support terms then I’d be more than happy to help, please make contact on the details below."

In terms of D5 coming available, they generally change the model year following the Summer shut down and D5 is billed as being MY17 so I would expect this to hit the dealers in September or October... the cut-off dates for Euro V may drive the process...
