This is going to have to get escalated with LRCS - the FPO is now involved.

cor, wish I could charge that hourly rate.....

Dick Turpin would have been embarrassed to charge those rates, according to my calculator that is £134.75 per hour. Until I retired in September part of my job was to manage 5 in house workshops for a large Local Authority, I won't quote the exact labour rate, as that is commercially sensitive information, but suffice to say it was under £40.00 per hour. This included all direct labour costs, indirect labour costs such as holidays, sick pay, pensions, NI etc and all overheads plus a percentage contribution to capital employed. In other words everything a Main Dealer would have to take into account except image of premises and profit. My Technicians were paid the same sort of hourly rate as main dealer Technicians with a significantly better benefits package, better holidays, better pension and better sick benefits. Our expenditure on specialist diagnostic equipment was at least the equivalent if not greater than that of a JLR dealer as we were dealing with a wide range of different Marques and types of vehicles. In addition our parts inventory was probably significantly greater as when it is snowing it is no good saying "Oh sorry snow plough parts are on back order" similar with blue light vehicles such as Fire Appliances and Ambulances. It sickens me that main dealers get away with fleecing the private customer on labour rates, you can bet that the big leasing companies and Land Rover warranty are not paying the dealers these rates.

I do the vast majority of the maintenance on my Discovery myself and am therefore insulated from this highway robbery and I am grateful for the sharing of technical information on this forum that enables me to continue to do that. I applaud the likes of Disco_Mikey, Flack, Bodsey, Robbie, Geoff, Advanced Factors, Gap Diagnostics, etc (I apologise to anybody that I may have missed) that help to keep those less able to wield a spanner, an oily rag and a big hammer out of the rapacious clutches of the main dealer network.

Note for those still wedded to the main dealers, the Highways Agency, who employ a significant number of Discoverys over a very high mileage and are extremely safety conscious do not use the main dealer network for servicing and repairs!

Oh dear. I had mine replaced too. On side only, full injector kit as well. I used an indi and cost me about 900 notes all in.

Absolute pain but the car will be as good as new once done. I just worry that the other side will go too at some point.
 D4 HSE all the way

Some good news... LRCS have agreed to pay 50% - so that's £1,100 for both manifolds replaced on my 2011 D4. It's a big job so I'm happy with that... it has done over 100k
(the rest is for the belt change and worn suspension parts)

Little concerned that the faulty manifold TSB was issued April 2015... by coincidence, just after the last 2011 car has left the manufacturers warranty period ! Laughing

Just been having a look at this, was it a straightforward claim? Had a mooch at the WD policy doc & can't find inlet manifold, does it have another name, like throttle body?

Inlet manifold = Rocker Cover = Cam cover

I'd struggle to call it anything else...

I think I have looked for it before and haven't seen it in my WD EXtra Care policy.

Is this MY11 only or is MY10 included as well in the faulty batch? Good to see LR pausing something towards it!

Hi Wilsong2, I'm afraid I didn't have anything to do with LCS directly on this issue... it was all negotiated through my LR dealer. At that time I was very lucky to have a good relationship with a dealer I trust. I think I still have the invoices for the work, but all it said was -50% contribution from LR.

Sorry I can't be more help - (it did help being able to quote the TSB notice numbers... until then I don't think they would have tried claiming anything extra from LR).

so that didn't happen. Prices quoted by LR are ridiculous, had the drivers side one done with other things for less £600 and just had a quote for around £500 for the passenger side one. Even with the 'LR contribution' at their costs it is not happening. Whilst the pain and effort associated with dealing with LRCS might make it feel good to get maximum 50% off, it is still way higher than the indie prices. Unless you can get the costs covered by an external warranty (anyone managed that wheeze?) reckon best bet is indie on these.

I had no contribution from LR for either of mine but did get Warranty Direct to cover both. Thumbs Up
