Flipping Fan problem, only 6V to fan control relay : ( |
|
Hi All,
If I can get this fan fault sorted then the awful ABS fault causing no speedo, special progs off, suspension on it's backside (another story !) this week then I will keep the car but my patience is being tested, but such a great car when all working !
Okay right then - blower relay only getting approx 6V and not switching, if I link the relay contacts to feed the 12V through, then blower controls work fine through the range and fan does the business.
Anyone know why only approx 6V arriving at the relay socket in the engine compartment fuse box ?
I have changed the temperature management "fuse/relay" unit near the blower motor - it would seem the original was fine so hey ho.
Is it a case of pulling the front panel of heater controls and checking connectors from the back ?
ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED - before I end up with a large pile of parts that used to look like a D3 and still no blower functionality ; )
Jon.

usually a faulty relay.
In the box is a rear fan relay and front fan relay.
Try swapping them and see if it now works

Thanks for the reply.
Not sure if I was clear enough.
I have swapped relays, no difference.
The voltage to SWITCH the blower on is only around 6v to the pin.
Not enough to switch it...

Thanks for that link, I read that before posting : )
It would seem then that the 6v at the pin is the crux of the issue.
I will try to run a new earth to the negative pin and if I follow correctly will get 12v on the switching pin to that relay.
The voltage to “run” the blower is at the relay socket just seemingly the feed (variable negative / earth ?) is such that no 12v.
If it was a broken wire surely it would be open circuit and zero volts ?
A head scratcher for sure !

UPDATE....anyone chip in with some knowledge ? |
|
Okay - seems I was being a little daft when sensing 6V - numpty me, sorry all who read my previous post.
The situation is that when I connect the ground negative for the relay that is switched to become the negative earth (-12v) by the control panel the relay energises and the fan runs.
So somewhere there is no continuity between heater air con etc control panel and the back of the relay.
I have removed the panel itself, re-seated the connectors and even tried "supplying" the green/white wire in question with a -12V(earth) to no avail.
SO...
Does anyone know what wire I can tap into on the back of the fusebox in the engine bay (easiest) that is only an earth/return/negative when the ignition is on ?
As they say ALMOST there !
Winter is a BAD time to be without blowers / demisters/ heat.
If it was not for the heated screen and heated seats I would be well and truly stuffed.
So anyone any ideas on which wire ?
I have analysed the linked wiring diagrams on the forum for the heating system but not getting far, not my field : (
Just need a switched ignition only negative ....
