D3 2006 - "Special Programs off" error
For a while I have had problems with the terrain selection goes into failure mode with the message "Special Programs Off". It's no systematic or constant failure, it comes and goes. If I turn the engine off and restart it's working again.
Somtimes the error occure when driving, and somtimes when starting the car. But it seems as if I make a hard left turn at speed, the failure sets in.
The first time I got the error was after the car had been parked in cold weather (below -10 C) for a couple of days
The battery is fully charged and only 6 months old.
Anyone experienced the same, and what is the fix?

Hi Vespa,
There appears to be quite a few of us with similar symptoms. If you do a search you'll find a few of the threads. Someone with more know how will no doubt be along shortly with a few links for you.
Have you checked your brakelight bulbs and switch ? That seems to be a common one as does the battery charge level. Jarrod
Current : D3 2007 HSE - AKA the lemon
-beanie grille
-detango with led bulbs
-club body off rebuild. TWICE.
Is to check your battery....
Low battery always brings up these error messages & heralds the point your Disco won't start....
Batteries are pretty useful for starting the engine!
& don't last foreverBREXIT - done properly.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Need to read the codes as a starting point, the list is endless what it could be.
In over 3 years of ownership this has happened to me a few times for no apparent reason.

Have you checked for water around the traction control module situated behind the battery? They do seem to be prone to problems with water affecting the circuit board in the tcm especially if the engine bay has been pressure washed. My Discovery was afflicted by similar problems and after trying all the cheap options such as the brake lights, the brake light switch, cleaning the contacts on the tcm and re-flashing the software on the tcm the final cure was a new traction control module.

I recently had problems with the EPB, the control module was one of the things checked, it was OK.
Is there a way to check the brake light switch other than replacing it?

Thanks for the tip, but I already have had the tracking adjusted, as I changed the lower controlarms.
