Movement when in Park

So now I'm noticing a slip when I put it in park - I've been using the handbrake now for a while but I do vaguely remember there being not as much slack in the Park transmission as now - (102k) Have I got to keep an eye on anything - diff/propshaft backlash? Gearbox destruction/no xmas pressies for anyone etcetc??

I use the EPB every time I stop - got it to auto engage and auto release. Use it or loose it being my motto!

As for the park issue - can't say I've noticed any particular slack - even before it was rebuilt at about 170K - so Beanie could well be right as it being a linkage issue. Thumbs Up

My experience of stopping in park with a range of vehicles, both 2 and 4 wheel drive and with different manufacturers transmissions is that there is often a bit of movement and the amount of movement can be unpredictable, I think it is a characteristic of how park works and is more noticeable in 4 wheel drive vehicles because there is more potential for slack to be taken up in the transmission.

Hi,
Two things to mention Whistle
Did the LRE last week and the instructors words were "use park first then put the EPB on if you want to but not really needed the vehicle is held on the transmission rather than just a cable, which can cause issues" Shocked well there's a surprise Laughing

Just used a one week old Mondeo auto and it kept worrying me how far it rolls back when put into P
Way more than the 3 Landrovers have ever done

Should have said 3 things as just realised I have actually praised my Landrover Shocked

Thumbs Up

Read the manual.

Epb first then park.

Park is only a tiny little pawl that engages in the box and shouldnt be used to hold the car on its own
