grey smoke ....best place in cambridgeshire to go?

ive recently brought a d3 tdv6 2006 and it does the following any ideas or the best man to have a look locally to wisbech?when its started it runs sweet but sometimes not every time smokes a little but this clears after around 4-500 yards and as I say drives spot on after a run it then runs on 5 with no smoke but if you leave it on idle it will then bellow grey smoke after a foot full on the accelerator?im told injector issues from one person then im told burnt piston by another both are meant to be specialist so im confused any clarification would be good.also just to mention the egrs have been deleted for good measure.

I would agree with injector fault, have you had the codes read?
Bear in mind the injector numbers do not tally with the cylinder numbers!

I am afraid to say this is a difficult one.. I had a similar issue on my TD5 and it took me a long time to find the culprit. In short I went through the following:-

Replaced turbo seals and bearings
Changed injector seals (not a problem on TDV6 as no fuel gallery)
Changed all the injectors as I though it could be bore wash

The key question is it grey or blue? Believe it or not this is difficult to distinguish in the winter, however in the summer it is clear and evident - on mine it was blue altough not burning much oil.

If grey it will be fuel related if blue it will be engine wear related.

If blue and it does it at idle it could be turbo seals and/or worn valve guides/seals. If blue all the time it will be piston ring/bore wear.

In the end on my TD5 it turned out to be valve guides/seals (yet to strip the old head down to confirm as I reconditioned a second hand one). This solved the problem.

No experience on the TDV6 so hopefully someone will come along and advise further.. good luck Thumbs Up
Owning a Discovery 3 is like dating a model.. a firm body and shape, wow.. the ride is fantastic >Very Happy for this your wallet can take a pounding and you worry about being deflated at any time...
