Fuel gauge showed fullish last night, this morning empty with distance to empty "0"
Thoughts
1. Some had nicked it
2. A leak
3. Faulty fuel gauge
Filled up with £19 so not option 1, diesel not pouring out underneath car so not option 2
5th service and MOT due so now booked for the tank to be removed as the failure of the sender unit is quite common - obviously not enough for LR to do a recall !
Don't know how much the unit is but looks like I will be close to a £1000 poorer. Never mind it still won't remove my D4 2010 HSE Santorini Black

It is quite simple to take the tank out, if it is the same as the D3 it could also be cabling in the front wheel archJoined the BMWX5 45e group

New error on entertainment screen "timed climate system unavailable. Please check fuel level and battery"

My 2011 had the same last week, Landrover assistance came out as part of the Land Rover extended warranty, after testing they said there was a fault and he reset something to stop limp mode kicking in.
It took guy salmon a week to repair and when I picked it up they said the delay had been because the extended warranty company and Landrover themselves had been argueing over who was picking up the bill. Apparently LR themselves ended up paying as it was a known issue.

Simon speak to Pete at customer services. If its a known fault there maybe some goodwill.
I will also speak to my mate who had a similar issue. Will see what resolved his.
It's being collected by Ongar Bridge on tuesday afternoon and hope to have it back wednesday evening.
Not sure how TSB's work if you are out of warranty but hopefully Pete will let me know
Hope to see you soon at Barnfield - nothing booked yet until Easter

I had the same fault and it turned out to be the wiring connecting the fuel tank sender unit - still quite expensive - extract from invoice:
'Work carried out:
Traced fault to fuel tank sender units connections
Removed fuel tank & carried out repair to connections
Refitted tank & confirmed fault rectified'
Parts/Materials:
Connector -cable 6 x £1.00 each
JLR vehicle diagnostic code read 1 x £45.00
Free wash & vac'
Total price £248.40 (inc VAT)
Hope you're as "lucky"! 2010 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand on GY DTs (was on GG ATs)

Hi Simon
As Dan said, I had a similar issue last year, the engine shut down at 50 mph on the A406 near Ilford . The fuel gauge was reading approx 1/3 tank, with the range showing 120 miles. The vehicle was recovered to the nearest dealer, Statstones, Hainault. The first thing they suggested was that I'd run out of fuel as the gauge now read empty!
They seemed to know about Technical Bulletin LTB00566v6 and carried out the connector x 6 fix that Captain Slog has had, this was covered under LR Extended Warranty. All was OK, however the fuel gauge still couldn't be trusted. As it was due a service within a couple of months, I relied on the trip counter, filling up every 300 miles.
Whilst in for a service at Lookers, Bishop Stortford, the gauge issue would be looked into, they suggested it would probably be the level senders at fault.
I received a call from them to tell me that the fuel tank was badly deformed on the upper surface causing the senders to be displaced and that it needed to be renewed, they also questioned whether it would be covered under warranty.... It seems that the tank had sucked itself in. This was on the Saturday morning, I sent Pete a PM hoping he could assist.
Anyway, after a Weekend of looking at the possibility of a £1000++ bill, I received a call first thing on the Monday from Lookers to say that Customer Services had been in touch.... After a couple of hours the repair had been authorised and it was all to be covered under Extended Warranty. Tank, senders, breathers even pump module! Pete
Personally, I would see what Pete has to say before any work is started by Ongar Bridge, as it is a known fault there may be some goodwill.
All done by Ongar Bridge and cheaper than expected.
For LR to consider it, I would have had to take it to my local LR and considering where I live I would rather pay to have it fixed somewhere I trust rather than take it there !D4 2010 HSE Santorini Black
