Looking to Buy first Disco 3 |
|
Hi,
I'm looking to buy my first Disco 3, on either 07, 57, 08 or 58 plate, as I've never owned one before I'm looking for advice on:
A. Any known issues with these model years?
B. When is the cam belt change due and is there anything else to change at the same time?
C. Mileage, most of them seem to 90,000 plus.
D. I've heard that air suspension is a problem, can this be changed for old fashioned coil springs?
E. Also the Electronic Park Brake, is this likely to be fixed with the above age and mileage?
Any advice gratefully received,
Jase

Just a point, belts should be done at 7 yrs, or 105K miles which ever is the sooner. Low mileage vehicles may not have had it done in the belief it is due only at 105K miles

Ok,
slightly concerned with the common mention of cambelt tensioner disasters or more specifically the mounting bracket, with this in mind should I be looking for a 56 plate or will these be plagued wih the same issue?

Safest bet is to get a 55 plate as these have seen less issues or buy whatever you want factoring in £600 to get the oil pump replaced.
Save a fortune by using the guys on here such as Geoff or Flack. You know it will be a job done well James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

As above and if you fit coils to replace air springs, you'll definitely ruin one of the best bits of the D3. Air all the way for imho Freelander SE 2005 Auto.
D3 TDV6. Gone.

Choose carefully my friend, take your time ask a lot of questions and get to know the signs of faults to look for. If you can,t take someone with you who can ! I bought a 05 D3 HSE with only 1 owner and full service history for £8000 in July, come the end of October I will have spent nearly £5000 to repair major faults and niggley faults alike. So take your time and save yourself money and stress. Good luck and welcome to the forum

Thanks for your advice so far.
Having a look at an 56 plate SE today with cam belt and water pump replaced, FSH, will check air suspension.
What is the best way to test the terrain response?

Grass/gravel/snow should make the throttle seem a bit duller than when in standard mode, not as quick to respond. Sand, on the other hand, should make it seem a bit sharper than normal.
In mud ruts, make sure HDC comes on, and in rock crawl, make sure it asks you to put it in low range and once you do, it should automatically raise the suspension to off-road height.
If you have the 4x4 info screen selected, you should also get diff lock indicators on there.
This is a pretty basic answer for testing in, say, a dealer's car park. For more info see this:
