TPMS & wheels that dont have sensors

What happens when you fit none TPMS wheel/tyres to a car with the TPMS installed. Asking as my winter wheels do not have thsensors fitted and will be looking to put them on in the near future.

On her BMW, it just bongs every time your start it and leaves an amber warning light on the dash. I don't think it will inhibit starting or anything.

You get a warning. Buy the valves from a dealer and get them fitted with the tyres and then it sets itself up. Avoid the ebay valves as they didnt work for me.

Beware using wheels without them Russell ...there are potential insurance implications if your vehicle is post Jan 2015.

All new vehicles must be fitted with them as standard and the system must work correctly ...and where fitted any vehicle registered post 2012 will automatically fail an MOT if you have any faults in the TPMS system......IMO it's best to clarify with your insurer as the way I read it if you try to turn it off or just live with the fault indicators this could be an issue for them if the wheel comes off. Confused

Buy the IID Bluetooth tool that you are tempted by and you can turn them off when you change your wheels.

Thumbs Up
