Coincidence or can water pump just jump out?

My D4 commercial had its cambelt changed on Tuesday, almost bang on 112,000miles and 3.5years old.
This morning (Thursday), when parking and after less than 50miles. The steering goes heavy, then steam appears. Parked, look under bonnet and the water pump is now not bolted in, drive belt is loose and no coolant left!
Recovered to mechanic whom did work and he is surprised to see what has occurred.
Is this just unlucky or as a result of the work at the front end?

Hopefully someone can give me a clue?

Same happened to me, Had belts and tensioners replaced and the pump bolts sheared resulting with the water pump literally fell off.

Got the bolts and pump replaced and all was good again

Probably a bolt not replaced during the work carried out resulting in this failure.

It's been reported on here a few times.

I have seen this on numours occassions, when the belts have been changed and the water pump not removed the top bolt that holds the water pump on, has been undone instead of the bolt (almost in the same position) that holds the timing belt cover on.

It seems that just one bolt missing is enough to snap the other two when under tension from the aux belt. They are only a 6mm thread so quite small in diameter.

Flack Thumbs Up
