You can pick up a grade A shop return for about £80 on EBay. I've got two, one in the D4 and one in the Audi and they are simply superb. They start with the engine and switch off with the engine and there's various programmable delays. Night vision is awesome and, well go see for yourself.
I've used many types and I am sure there are other good ones out there but this is the best by far that I have owned.

+1 for Blackvue DR650GW2CH front and rear cams. Very well made, I like that you can download clips straight to phone so you don't need to remove SD cards, also very discreet though have had a few issues with the cloud connectivity and Blackvue support is a little sub standard.
I also installed the power manager module so it doesn't flatten the car battery, currently set to turn off at 11.8v and from what I can see that gives me about 5hrs of parking mode recording.
Cost was £259, fitted myself, pretty easy, took about 2 hours all in.
Pic was from last week in Gloucester when a rangie, Q7 and D4 blocked a BMW in, shot its tyres out and smashed the windows with cuffed occupants, didn't capture the actual drama, just the aftermath but nice to know you can play it back

Whats the best sub £60 dashcam currently for image quality ? Any recommendations and examples?
I have a transcend 200, you can get for about £70 (were £100 but there is a 220 out now) with a 16g card, very simple to use and good reviews, what I like is you can transfer straight to my phone/tablet with a app

I originally had the Roadhawk DC1 fitted to mine and Mrs Jim's cars, but changed them for a couple of cheap dash cams that I picked up from e bay about 6 months ago.
To be honest some of the cheaper cams give as good, and sometimes a better picture than the more expensive models.
These days I wouldn't be without a dash cam, and for the sake of £50 it's a no brainier.

Have a Thinkware 770, front and back; works very well. Used their 750 on my last car for a year, again worked well.Daniel

I picked up the week before Christmas a pair of Garmin Dash 30 from Sainsburys reduced from a claimed £130 RSP, for just £50 a piece; typically they are sold by competitors at the moment for £90 > £100.
I told my brother who after a chase around has also just found one.
They do a basic job with HD performance, are typically Garmin quality and take a substantial 64GB card, though are supplied with just a 4 GB SD card.

I have BlackVue front and back and love it.
Even fitted one to my sons car.
Great GPS and excellent video quality.
Love the fact it has a wifi connection so i dont have to pull the card to see any video. Great for placing behind the mirror out of the way. And this means no annoying screens hanging down.
