Headlamps pointing at road

My 2006 Discovery 3 as just passed its MOT - to my surprise. The problem is that when the headlamps are on main beam, they both are pointing directly at the road, about 8 metres ahead, which makes for interesting driving at night.

Should that have been an MOT failure? I suppose dipped beam must have been OK, do main beams not get tested?

The beams move from side to side with the steering, but I can't see any up and down movement going on.

Check an easy thing first: make sure the lighting pods are properly seated. I was about to start realigning one of mine, but found it was partially unclipped just in time. Rolling Eyes

The dynamic levelling is generally not noticed easily by its nature. Thumbs Up

I'm not sure what point you're making there, DG.

Perhaps I should be a little clearer - I can see further down the road on dipped headlamps than I can on mains. This is because my main beams are pointing down and lighting up the road surface 8 metres infront of the car. I was asking if this should have been an MOT failure.

I also have a RR Sport - the dynamic headlamp leveling is very obvious every time I turn the headlamps on on that vehicle. No such leveling is visible on my D3.

I'm confused as to how your dipped beams can be correctly aligned, but not the mains? Do the lamps swivel down when the main beam is activated? Are the fixed H7 beams correct? Confused

Oh yes, it should be seen on start up if that's what you mean; I meant while driving. Thumbs Up

Could it be shutter related ? ....e.g. maybe the shutters are stuck down when you put it into main beam?

But how would the dipped beam then be better than the main? Confused
