13 pin electrics plug fouls and will not rotate to lock
Hi.
Just tried my 13 pin caravan plug into the dealer fitted socket and it cannot rotate to lock as it fouls on the top of the housing.
Lights etc. all work OK though.
If I chop a piece off the round collar on the top of the plug think it will rotate but surely should not have to go through that rigmaroll.
Mine is fitted to the RH side of the tow hook.
Anyone else suffered from this?
Thanks.2015 D4 HSE in Corris Grey

My 13 pin is to the left of the towball, with a dummy socket left in place on the right to cover the hole, and it fine. Something to do with being fitted on the right hand side?

Sounds like dealer has not fitted the spacer behind the socket, mines fitted on RHS and locks ok

When I fitted mine I had the same problem, so I rotated the socket by 90 deg to the left. That way the spring loaded flap opens towards the middle of the vehicle and you have plenty of room to rotate the socket and engage the lock.
How is the 13 Pin Mounted, mine is on the right like many I've seen, also the flap is not hinged at the top, it is hinged on the right, so I have to insert the plug at 12 o'clock and rotate to 3 o'clock to lock it.

My socket has 3 holes equi space so can only be rotated 120 degree increments.
Sounds like D3 layout is different to D4 maybe.
Tried all 3 positions still fouled.
Couldn't move it to the left position as the hole pattern is totally different - 4 holes.
Just canibalised the flange and it rotates now mounted hinge to the vertical right.
No spacer behind mine, did think about spacing washers but water could get behind.
Thanks chaps.2015 D4 HSE in Corris Grey

Exactly what I had. They hadn't fitted the spacer. The bolts supplied in the kit aren't long enough to go through the socket and the spacer.
In the end I just took the spacer from them and got myself the correct bolts from eBay !!

This is a common problem with 13-pin plugs.
Basically caused by the outer housing rotating but the inner not. Which in turn is usually caused by the user pushing the plug inward when mating. The inward pressure should be minimal, the main effort should rotational. More common with cheaper plugs where the outer is not well secured to the inner.
Most caravan shops sell a green 'cap' for c£3 that you can use to re-align the inner and the outer parts of the plug.

It's a shame you had to "canibalise" your flange to get it to work, I was going to take a pic of mine but SWMBO is out with her at the moment. But I found this on the LR official accessories website, is yours fitted like this?

Mine is located to the right of the hook and the flap is to the top. The plug fits and rotates with no issues, as has been said I think it is to do with a spacer not being fitted.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

No Landymannie, on my D4 the 13 pin socket has to go to the right, the hole pattern around the left aperture is totally different, 4 or 5 holes none of which align with the 13 pin so on a D4 (at least mine) the socket cannot be fitted to the left.2015 D4 HSE in Corris Grey

I understand what you are saying. Mine is fitted on the right hand side also, it was to demonstrate the orientation of the socket. Glad you have it sorted now

I fitted mine myself, and its on the left hand side, with the flap hinge to the left (as per the LR pic). To fit it you need the spacer/adaptor that comes with the loom.
Works fine.

If you want to see what it should look like, download from Topix the fitting instructions from the towing section for vplat0136, last page clearly shows spacer which bolts to crossmember onto which the 13 pin socket bolts to. Seems like dealer couldnt be bothered to do job correctly, or its not a genuine Land Rover electrics kit.
