I can relate to this!
I just ordered the book "Year with three summers" which is the story of the original trip.
Talking of other great Land Rover expeditions, has anyone else read 1st Overland by Tim Slessor? its the story of the first ever road trip from London to Singapore, in a Series 1 Land Rover. Highly recommended.

First overland is a fantastic read and only about £8 on Amazon.
Also there is this video of the trip.
Will get ordering the book about the trip as I've never known about it, some good pictures and it's nice to see the cars survived and the 3 remaining team members can complete it.
Always find it amazing how far the early land rovers travelled and how many expeditions to far off lands turned to them as the car to use.
Gareth, where did you order the book from? In loving memory of FA54WSK.
Rest well old friend, your work is done.

Truly a great read.
Being born and bred in South Africa and done a few tours "below the Equator", I came across Diane Stuckey's "Great Trek 1953" from their home in Bath, England to Salisbury, Zimbabwe, then Southern Rhodesia.
I see it is in Kindle format now as well... but the original story is here:

In many ways, it was the existence of the Land Rover that made these trips possible at all. There really weren't many practical alternatives in the 50's and 60's. Darren
