Front propshaft Failure + lose bolts : common falt ? |
|
Hello everyone
I just got back home from my trip to Billing (+/- 2500KM round trip)
On the way back the disco started to vibrate at around 120 km/h
Arrived, the front propshaft happens to be dead since to all its grease is gone, it has "blued" (became blue from overheating) and the D3 rattles like crazy
also the bolts holding it to the front diff were a bit loose
QUESTION :
- has this ever happen to anyone ?
- is there any warranty or factory recalls on that part
- the part is not so expensive : 300 euros + VAT in France so around 450 euros fitted (that's about 260 £)
- anyone has one for sale ?

Don't remember seeing people with propshaft problems, but there's been several diff failures - could it have been the diff heating up and the heat from it heating the propshaft?
Also, won't the dealer replace whatever's needed under warranty - just wondering why you're looking for one to buy? IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

The FFRR problem was due to an alignment problem with the propshaft as the front diff was bolted to the engine and the prop didn't have a uj at the diff end.
The D3 doesn't have this problem - don't know if there is a common issue, as failures are rare, but there have been a few which involved the diffs heating up to insane temperatures, maybe due to fluid loss?
Ouch, 100K warranty. Surely there may be some goodwill given the warranty across the channel in the UK is unlimited? If not, if it looks expensive, it may be cheaper to go on holiday to the UK and get it fixed free in a UK dealers? IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

Yes, 3 years unlimited in the UK.
We've the same problem in Ireland, (100K km limit), but I've had a few bits done on mine under warranty at a UK dealer in the past and made a point of asking them that as mine is registered in Ireland, are the warranty terms based on country of registration, or where the dealer is, and they were 100% certain that they would have no problem doing work on any D3, as long as it had been serviced to the UK schedule and was still within the UK warranty terms - i.e. 3 years. I've checked with 2 seperate dealers about this. IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
