Another "would you wait"?!! |
|
If the dealer is to be believed, my new Disco HSE is due to arrive 3rd week of July.
So, as the subject says, would you pick it up then or wait 5 weeks for the new reg? We plan on keeping the car for a good 7 or 8 years so I'm thinking we'll just pick it up as soon as it's ready.
All opinions appreciated!
Cheers.

if you are keeping it that long won't effect resale .

I get mine in two weeks and am picking it up. I don't care about 15/65 issue and am planning on keeping it a similar length to yourself…..

I'm in exactly the same situation, with mine due to arrive on 24/7. I was going to wait until 1/9. However, I've changed my mind.
I'd like to make use of it during the best month of the year, I'd like the dealer to prep the vehicle and hand it over when they aren't rushed off their feet and the plate change is pretty meaningless to most people now, as so few people understand it and I'd suggest even less actually care!
Pick the car up when you want to and forget the plate change stuff. Your dealer might even be pleased enough that you're prepared to move the registration forward a month (and likely into the previous sales quarter), that they might even give you a small incentive...
I opted out years ago anyway and I've used the same £245 private plate for the last 10 years!

For me it's definitely not about plate snobbery, I really couldn't care about whether it's a 15 or 65 plate. It's all about the fact that by not waiting are we just costing ourselves money in terms of resale value.
If it does come in 3rd week of July though I think I'm starting to edge towards taking then and enjoying it.

Yes, there may be a cost in resale value if you change again within the next 2-3 years. The fact that it's a MY16, rather than a 15 should help though.
But so many are drawn to selecting colours and specification, along with registration timing, to benefit the resale price and the next owner that they can easily lose track of what they are spending so much money on in the first place - to simply get out there and enjoy it!
I've made the latter my top priority
John.

Spoke to the Dealer today and apparently build date is next Wednesday (15th). As long as everything goes ok with the PDI then apparently could have it by 21st or 22nd July!!
Now I'm excited!!

Good stuff. So you've decided not to wait for the plate change in the end then?

Yep, decided to take it as soon as it's ready. I've never had a Disco before and I've decided life is short so why not just start enjoying it as soon as I can!!
