And My new Disco ... collected today
Forgive the awful picture ..... taken as it was getting dark ..... same car as in my 'not a good start....' but now with black and silver wheels/side steps and mud flaps....
Will try and post better ones ..... dealers forced a 'self tapping' screw into the top of left hand side of the front underbody sill (scratching it in the process ) to stop the thing slipping down, a problem that has been reported widely already. They say they will replace.....
Got to go back Friday for incident cameras to be fitted..... so we will see....2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Feels very 'tight' to drive ..... when take foot off throttle ... almost like its 'braking' .... doesn't just 'coast along' if you get my drift.... early days of course and should free up ... I hope!
Other than that enjoyed doing the few miles I have done so far...... but early doors..... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Dannyson congratulations on the new car. Re your last comment it would is exactly what I am getting. Usually 2nd gear, foot off the throttle and it feels as if the brakes are on slightly rather than it coasting. Feels more than engine / gearbox braking to me.
Also, do you have a photo of where the dealer put the self tapper? Seems like a rubbish fix to what is quite clearly a design fault in the two upper fixings.MY15 D4 SDV6 HSE Corris Grey - Gone

Regarding you description of "feeling tight". Not wanting to steer you up the garden path as yours are brand spanking new but I get this drag effect every so often with my MY12 and it drives me nuts. Every time it starts I take it to the dealers and they reset something todo with the gearbox and all is well again. I do drive it like I stole it all the time but also regularly tow heavy and slip slide across muddy fields too so i just put it down to the gearbox not finding a happy calibration or something. Never had it on previous D3's just this 8 Speed.
Maybe it just needs to learn your style or something.

This sounds like regenerative braking (or "Smart Regenerative Charging", in LR speak) to me.
The first time I experienced it was in a Mercedes (don't ask, it was a bad day!); when I took my foot off the throttle to coast down a hill, it started slowing down much more than I expected. Basically, the alternator recharges the battery much more when energy might otherwise go to waste, giving a feeling of very noticeable drag when power is otherwise not needed. Likewise, it's much more likely to disengage the alternator when accelerating, or hill climbing.
Check this link, taken directly from the LR 2012 press kit:
"An Intelligent Power Management System includes Smart Regenerative Charging, so whenever possible the alternator charges the battery when it is most economical to do so, such as when the car is coasting rather than accelerating."
So, it's liking it's nothing to be concerned about; it's just saving you fuel and reducing your VED....2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Thanks for that John .... yes it does feel a bit like what my wifes Toyota Auris Hybrid does .. sort of regenerating as you say.... if you 'tap' the throttle it stops ..... obviously .... now you've explained it...:-} - not mentioned by dealer and not come across in manual yet .... mind you its a bit of a 'tome' and I've not made much progress yet.
Slightly better pics?
And for Radders...
Lets not go there..... Not happy ..... dealer now recommends to 'super glue permanently in place' .... ... (to be fair it is a salesman recommending this.... but even so..... it shouldn't be glued or screwed - it needs to be removable!! to get at the towing eyelet!!! ) told them to order a new one and see if any better - and will live with 'best fit'......
I won't even go into how they tried to demonstrate how to remove the outer door lock cover to use emergency key and snapped it off breaking it....
Apart from that ..... its a dream to drive .... just love it!! (now that I'm getting over my 'OMG what have I done!! ...... should have stuck with my Land Cruiser .....') But No.... this is so different and luxury by comparison!! ...... But how long will it remain like this?.... so far so good ... apart from what I've mentioned 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Nice looking motor ...but that screw is horrendous ...even I would be leaping around about that
As for the drag that's just the transmission ...there is no regenerative braking as the alternator only draws from the engine ...the itelligent part is when it chooses to do it 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

And as it draws energy from the motor it effectively increases engine breaking and drag.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

It doesn't put on any additional demand in that manner ...have a read of the system operation on Topix 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
