Toebar Electrics Compartment Rust Issue
Rust has appeared at the edges of the metalwork in the tow-bar electrics compartment of my less than 3 year old D4. Should I be alarmed? Are there any other places I should look? (I note the wheel hub post below - Mine are rusty and far worse than the 7 year old Honda next door)
What do you think I should do about it? Advice please before I take the car to the garage.

A little superficial rust there seems to be the norm. I'd use a little spray on grease and forget it

Your replies are re-assuring. I didn't fancy crawling about underneath looking for common rust places but I still find it disappointing. I want to find all the issues before it's 3 year service in September.

It's a cosmetic issue really. At least I've not heard of it progressing to anything else. It, of course, isn't noticeable with the tow socket cover on.
I would think it's easily rectifiable with a bit of DIY and some products from your local motor factor. Although I have to admit that I haven't bothered. One of those jobs I am going to do, but there always seems to be something more pressing. But I will do it...

Mines not 3 years old and looks a lot worse than that. I have the cover off permanently though. I don't do major off roading but do wade deeper than the electrics in the winter on an almost weekly basis. I also had rust on some bolts in the rear upper tailgate area and the rear ladders rusting too in places. Dealer replaced the bolts but said whilst it doesn't look pretty its all within an acceptable state
I'm going to coat the new one in "something" around that area when i get it in September more for aesthetics reasons as people have commented quite a bit on the state it looks.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten
