Hpfp and cam belt

Bad day today was driving on a dual carriageway with trailer behind and next thing engine fault and stopped luckily managed to roll to a lay by quick call to my mate who come and towed me home with a BMW X5.
Yes he was very smug and hasn't let me forget it yet.
Anyway get it back and there is a pool of diesel underneath the disco so straight on the ramp and see the leak coming from the rear cambelt cover so stripped the cambelt cover off to find the cambelt is half the thickness it should be and the other half has been rapped round the fuel pump and worn the fuel pump spindle away causing the diesel to leak out past the seal.
i rang up the local parts supplier and they got 2 pumps available 1 normal 1 and an updated 1 so I went for the updated 1 does anyone no what the difference is?
Anyway tomorrow is fit new pump and front and back cambelt kits, oil pump and service and see how it goes.
Has anyone had this before because I'm concerned as to why it's happened and will it do it again to the new belt? Cambelts were replaced at 105000 miles so the history states and it was a gates cambelt I took off its now done 145000 miles

One belt is 85 teeth, the other 82 teeth

Yours is an EU3 model, and needs the 85 tooth belt. Part number is 1324390

It's the high pressure pump I was on about there is the normal 1 that's on it from factory or an up rated 1 available that I've chosen just wondered what the difference is?
